Forehand, age 97, of High Shoals, died Wednesday, Feb. 2, 2000. A native of Walton County, she was a daughter of the late Emmett Hale and Mary Robison Hale. She was a graduate of Athens High School, State Normal College and the University of Georgia. She retired in 1968 after teaching 37 years as an elementary school teacher in Oconee County school system. She was a charter member of the Good Hope Christian Church, her father having given the land for the church when it was organized in 1913. For the past 45 years she had been a member of the First Christian Church of Athens and, at the time of her death, was the oldest member. Funeral services were held Saturday, Feb. 5, 2000, in Mt. Vernon Cemetery, Monroe. Dr. Ray Austin officiated. Surviving are one daughter, Mary Sue Crowley of Buckhead; two grandchildren, Rhonda Pruitt of Watkinsville and Glenn Pruitt of Watkinsville; two grandchildren; Kristopher and Morgann Pruitt, both of Watkinsville. Andrew Ashley was the infant son of Roger Derrick and Cindy Cothran Ashley. Services were Saturday at Stephens Memorial Gardens with the Rev. Richard Ivester officiating. OBITUARIES Story last updated at 8:43 a.m. on Sunday, February 6, 2000 Nancy Nichols Roswell Nancy Ann Nichols, 56, of Roswell, Ga., lost her long and courageous battle against breast cancer on Wednesday, Feb. 2, 2000. She passed away peacefully at the home of her brother, the Rev. Jim Wooten, in Decatur, Ill. Ms. Nichols was born in Atlanta on August 11, 1943, the daughter of James B. and Martha A. (Binkley) Wooten. Prior to her illness, Nancy was actively involved in ALTA tennis and was a volunteer at the Shephard Spinal Center. She had recently become a member of Rowell United Methodist Church. Visitation will be held at the Mayes-Ward Funeral Home in Marietta from 5-7 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 7. Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 8, at the Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church cemetery in Marietta. A memorial service for Ms. Nichols will be at 3 p.m. Tuesday at the First Presbyterian Church, Marietta, with the Rev. Bert Carmichael and the Rev. James B. Wooten Jr. officiating. Memorials may be directed to the Susan B. Komen (Race for the Cure) Foundation, 2300 N. A native of Alliance, Ohio, she was a daughter of the late Theodore and Isabel Bechler Buchanan, and the widow of Dr. Robert G. Eagon. Having lived in this area since 1955, she was a member of Emmanuel Episcopal Church. She was a member of Alpha Delta Fraternity, BA Chapter Founder, Clan Buchanan Society in America Member in 1970, National Federation of Republican Women, Georgia Federation of Republican Women, UGA Women's Club, Glenwood Garden Club Athens Society, and the Archaeological Institute of America. Memorial services will be held Monday, Feb. 7, 2000, at 10:30 a.m. at Emmanuel Episcopal Church. Interment will be in Oconee Hill Cemetery. Mrs. Dudley was born in Franklin County, March 14, 1921. She was a daughter of the late Leonard Earl and Roxie Foster Fleming, and was preceded in death by a brother, J.P. Fleming. She was a homemaker and member of the Royston Church of God where she was an officer of the Women's Ministries for many years. Survivors include her husband, Major Dudley, Royston, Ga.; two daughters, Jennifer McCullar, Royston, Ga., and Sandra Grizzle, Royston, Ga.; two brothers, Hubert Fleming, Royston, Ga., and W.J. Fleming, Royston, Ga.; three granddaughters; and four great-grandchildren. Funeral services for Mrs. Dudley will be at 3 p.m. Sunday, February 6, 2000, at the Royston Church of God with the Rev. She was a foster mother to 45 children, was the first woman stonecutter in Elberton and was co-owner of J&B Granite Company. She was a member of Elberton Church of God.
