He was a retired foreman in the granite industry, was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force and was of the Baptist faith. Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Hicks Funeral Home with the Rev. A native of Oglethorpe County, Mrs. Cheek had resided most of her life here in Clarke County. She was the daughter of the late Delmer and Ettie Kelly Dillard, and the widow of the late Charles F. Cheek. She had worked at Lanier Gardens as a receptionist before retirement. Survivors include son, Harry H. Partin Jr., Atlanta; daughter and son-in-law, Michelle and Bill Nightingale, Stafford, Va.; daughter, Alana Partin, Athens; brother and sister-in-law, Jesse and Brenda Dillard, Winterville; sister, Sara Dell Carter, Athens; sister-in-law, Dorothy Cheek, Toccoa; grandchildren, Stephen Porter and Ben Nightingale. OBITUARIES Story last updated at 7:51 p.m. on Saturday, October 7, 2000 Frances Wilfong Athens Frances Wilfong, 380 Westview Drive, Athens, died Friday, October 6, 2000. Born in Savannah, Georgia, in 1919, she lived in Savannah, Brunswick and St. Mary's before her family moved to Athens when she was a teen-ager. She was the daughter of the late Frances Hoff Brandon and George W. Brandon. Her fist husband, Tom L. Lane, died in 1965; and she married Walter W. Wilfong Jr. in 1973. Mrs. Wilfong attended Athens High School and the University of Georgia, graduating summa cum laude with a degree in French. She was a member of Kappa Alpha Theta sorority and the honor societies of Phi Beta Kappa and Phi Kappa Phi. She was a member of the Athens Junior Assembly, which later became the Junior League of Athens. She was also a very active and committed member of the First Presbyterian Church of Athens. In addition to her husband, she is survived by two sons, two daughters, a stepson and their spouses: Tom and Anne Lane of Marietta; Richard and Fran Lane of Athens; Patricia and Michael Petelle of Marietta; Barbara and Ken Moore of Athens; and Winston and Sally Wilfong of Macon. Survivors also include a brother and sister-in-law, Howard and Josephine Brandon of Madison, and eight grandchildren: Brandon Lane, Burbank, Calif.; Leslie Lane, Washington, D.C.; Lane Moore and Emily Moore of Athens; and Christopher Wilfong, Edward Wilfong, Nancy Wilfong and Sarah Wilfong, all of Macon. Though she loved and was loved by many close friends, she had two very special friends, Eunice Lumpkin of Athens, and her cousin, Charlotte Folk of Nashville, Tenn. A memorial service will be held Sunday, Oct. 8, , at 3:00 p.m. in the sanctuary of the First Presbyterian Church. Dr. Glenn Doak Jr. will officiate. Interment at Oconee Hill Cemetery will follow the service. The family will be at the residence and will receive friends there on Sunday following the funeral.
