A native of Statham, Mrs. Lay was a daughter of the late Professor Hampton and Mary Moon. She was a retired Barrow County educator and historian. She spearheaded the building of the present Mount Sinai Baptist Church. She received her bachelor's degree from Fort Valley College and her master's degree from the University of Georgia. She was honored by the Georgia General Assembly in 1991 and in 1995 the Grace Moon Lay Trailblazer Scholarship was established at Winder-Barrow High School. Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Mount Sinai Baptist Church, Bogart, with the Revs. Curtis Jackson and LaFar D. Sims officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Memorial Park, Athens. Survivors include three daughters, Mary Lay, Statham, Grace Ragland, Chattanooga, Tenn., and Johnnie Lay Burks, Athens; and four grandchildren. A lifelong resident of Habersham County, Mr. Huff was a son of Barbara Huff, Demorest, and the late Cecil Huff. He was a graduate of Habersham Central High School, was a member of Cornelia First Baptist Church and was a former owner of Farm and Garden, Cornelia. Services will be at 3:30 p.m. today at Cornelia First Baptist Church with Dr. T. Logan Smith and the Rev. Billy Harris officiating. Burial will be in Level Grove Cemetery.
