OBITUARIES Story last updated at 7:41 a.m. on Tuesday, May 9, 2000 Mrs. Paul Wingfield Reid Madison Mrs. Paul Wingfield Reid, prominent Madison, Ga. musician and civic leader, died Sunday, May 7, at Emory University Hospital in Atlanta following a short illness. Mrs. Reid, the former Kathleen Harper, was organist at Madison Presbyterian Church and a music teacher in Madison for the past 47 years. She was born in Thomasville, Ga. on Sept. 25, 1932, the daughter of the late Judge and Mrs. James Keller Harper. She studied music at Wesleyan College Conservatory, graduating cum laude in 1953. She also continued her music studies in Salzburg, Austria. While at Wesleyan she was named to Who's Who in American Colleges and Universities. She came to Madison in 1953 as a music teacher. During her career she taught some of Madison's finest young musicians. She was also a member and accompanist for the Madison Community Chorus and Coordinator, Northeast Georgia Festival of the National Federation of Music Clubs. She was vice chairman of Madison Town Committee, Colonial Dames of America in the State of Georgia, a former member of the Wesleyan College Alumnae Board of Managers, Volunteer Campaign Coordinator, Madison Chapter of American Cancer Society, and a former Cub Scout Den Mother. She was married to Madisonian Paul W. Reid in 1956 and resided here with him at their house on Park Lane. Aside from her husband she is survived by two sons, Paul W. Reid III, Madison, and F. Hunter Reid, Greenville, S.C., and a daughter, Mrs. James F. (Kathy) Bangle of Athens, Ga. and one brother, James K. Harper, Atlanta. Mrs. Reid had a wide circle of friends all over the state and was greatly loved and admired by her students and the townspeople. She leaves a void that will be hard to fill. Private graveside services will be held Wednesday, May 10, at ten a.m. This will be followed by a memorial service at Madison Presbyterian Church at 11 a.m. Visitation is set for Tuesday evening, from 5:30 until 8 p.m. at the residence.
