Edith Robinson, 76, formerly of Athens, died Thursday, April 6, 2000. A native of Peoria, Ill., Mrs. Robinson was a daughter of the late Lowell and Josephine Robinson. She was raised by her uncle and aunt, James and Emma Langabeer in Fairbury, Ill. She was a 1943 graduate of Illinois State Normal University, majoring in science and math. She received her masters and doctoral degrees from the University of Wisconsin Madison. She taught high school math in central Illinois before becoming a professor at the University of Georgia. She was a member of and wrote tests for Educational Testing Service and was the author of several math texts. Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at Duffy-Pils Memorial Home, Fairbury, with the Rev. Steve Anderson officiating. Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery, Fairbury. A native of Oconee County, she was a daughter of the late Luther and Nancy Hill and was the widow of Joe Webb Wheeler. She was a wonderful Christian wife, mother and grandmother. She will be so missed, but we know she has already heard these words: ''Well done thy good and faithful servant...enter into the joy of the Lord.'' Mrs. Wheeler was a member of Ray's United Methodist Church. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm Wednesday in Ray's United Methodist Church with remains placed in the church at 1:30 pm. Rev. OBITUARIES Story last updated at 7:13 a.m. on Tuesday, April 11, 2000 Leta Beatrice Shutze Athens Leta Beatrice Shutze was born on July 8, 1923 to Bill and Cora Hill on their ranch and grain farm in Chase County, Nebraska. She grew up there in western Nebraska during the dust bowl days of the Depression attending elementary school in a one-room schoolhouse, and then graduating from Chase County High School in 1942. She was her high school's first young woman selected to attend Nebraska's Girl State program. Her studies continued at Colorado Women's College in Denver where she received her A.A. degree followed by a year in New York City studying her lifelong love of fashion design. On August 7, 1947 she married John V. Shutze. Leta's 52 years of married life were spend raising her two children, Michael and Marcia, and creating a safe, loving and well organized home for her family, guests, friends, and later in life her much loved grandsons, Michael and John. She lived her last 30 years in Athens, Georgia making many new fiends, both young and old, and enjoying the gracious southern hospitality and warmer winters. She was involved in the community life of her church and UGA. Her and John's hobby of raising and sharing roses earned her the nickname of the Rose Lady among her friends. Leta's family and friends will celebrate her life among us at a 7 PM Memorial Mass of the Resurrection at the UGA Catholic Center Chapel on Tuesday, April 11, followed by a reception. The family will greet her friends beginning at 6:30 PM in the chapel. In lieu of flowers the family requests making a gift in her name to the Memorial Fund at the UGA Catholic Center or to your favorite charity.
