A native of New York City, Mr. Calamia was a son of the late James and Rose Scala Calamia and was the widower of Adelaide Troutman Calamia. He was retired from Trunz Co. as a meat packing plant foreman and was of the Catholic faith. Services will be at 2 p.m. today in Oconee Memorial Park. Survivors include three sons, James Calamia and Joseph Calamia, both of Watkinsville, and Robert Calamia, Keyport, N.J.; a sister, Mildred Ciorciari, Maspeth, N.Y.; two brothers, Victor Calamia, Brooklyn, N.Y., and Phillip Calamia, Maspeth; three grandchildren; nieces and nephews. A native of Pickens County, S.C., Mr. Jewell was a son of David Lloyd and June Wood Jewell, Homer. He was an enforcement officer employed by the State of Georgia Enforcement Division and was a member of Emit Grove Baptist Church. Memorial services will be at 7 p.m. today at Emit Grove Baptist Church, Statesboro, with the Rev. Hubert Tankersley officiating. A native of Stephens County, Mrs. Dooley was a daughter of the late Carl and Hattie Mae Wilbanks Isbell and was the widow of Jim Newton Dooley. She was a member of Eastanollee Baptist Church and Dorcas Sunday school class. She was retired from Toccoa Nursing Center. Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Eastanollee Baptist Church with the Revs. Richard Ivester, Jolly Crumbley and Luther Williams officiating. OBITUARIES Story last updated at 9:58 p.m. on Thursday, August 10, 2000 Elynor Dorothy Kaufman Athens Elynor Dorothy Kaufman died August 7, 2000 at St. Mary's Hospital, just three weeks prior to her 91st birthday. Mrs. Kaufman was born on August 28, 1909 in Chicago, IL to Frank J. Jensik (b. Prague, Czech Republic) and Anna Bily, who lived in the ethnic Bohemian community of Chicago. The youngest of eight siblings, Mrs. Kaufman graduated from the Carl Schurz High School in Chicago. She was an enthusiastic flapper who was an expert at the Charleston. She won a number of dance contests and was a dance instructor for a time. Married on June 10, 1931 to Eli J. Kaufman, a contractor and commercial fisherman, Mrs. Kaufman moved to Fort Atkinson, WI, where she lived most of her adult life. In addition to being a devoted homemaker, during the depression Mrs. Kaufman began selling chicken dinners out of her kitchen at 35 cents a plate. This endeavor, over a number of years, evolved into a family restaurant ''Kaufman's'', owned and operated with her husband and her brother and sister-in-law, Vern and Betty Kaufman. The restaurant was eventually converted into a motel in the 1960s. Mrs. Kaufman was a talented bowler, winning a number of team trophies, as well as a devoted bridge player. She was well known for her skills as a baker, particularly her perfection of the Bohemian kolacky and hoska. Mrs. Kaufman was preceded in death by her husband in 1979 and soon after she began spending winters with her son, Professor Glen F. Kaufman of the University of Georgia, in Athens, where she made many friends. In 1997 she moved to Athens permanently to live with her son. Mrs. Kaufman is survived by her son, Glen Kaufman of Athens; a daughter and son-in-law, Karolyn and John Berhow of Bark River, MI; grandsons and granddaughters-in-law, Kurk and Paula Anderson of Kohler, WI, and Page and Jeanne Kaufman of Atlanta; granddaughter and grandson-in-law, Krystin and John Branciforte of Petodky, MI; granddaughter, Kari Anderson of Superior, WI; great grandsons, Shane and Marcus Anderson of Kohler, WI and Lee Kaufman of Atlanta, and great granddaughter, Katherine Anderson of Kohler, WI. Memorial services will be held Sunday, August 13, 2000 at 2:00 pm at Bernstein Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Martha Smith officiating. The family will receive friends after the service.
