Allan Winterville Matilda E. Allan, 97, of 765 Kings Road and the Winterville Retirement Center died on March 9, 2000. A native of New York City, Mrs. Allan had lived in Athens since 1988. She was a daughter of the late Margaret and William Wunsch and the widow of William Allan. She was predeceased by a daughter, Margaret Allan Mihalik. Mrs. Allan was a homemaker and active member of her community. She was an associate member of First Presbyterian Church of Athens while maintaining her membership in the Presbyterian Church of Astoria in New York. She had taught Sunday School, served many years as Superintendent of the Sunday School, was president of the Women's Missionary Society and King's Daughters Circle. She served as the corresponding secretary of the Engineering Woman's Club of New York City for many years. Survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law, Nancy and Herbert Geissler of Upper St. Clair, PA and Jessica and Charles Ostick of Athens, seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. A graveside service will be held at St. Michael's Cemetery, Jackson Heights, New York at 10 a.m. on Monday, March 13, 2000. OBITUARIES Story last updated at 8:26 a.m. on Saturday, March 11, 2000 Carlos Loyd McIntyre Greensboro, N.C. Mr. Carlos Loyd ''Mac'' McIntyre of 4402 Lawndale Drive died March 9, 2000, after several months of declining health. ''Mac'' was born April 22, 1907 in Randolph County, Alabama to the late Millard Leon and Ollie Harden McIntyre. He was a 1931 graduate of Auburn University, and a War Eagle through and through. He majored in Agronomy and soils and spent his entire career working in these areas. His career began as a student assistant in the Agronomy and Soils Department at Auburn. After graduation he became an agronomist with the Black Belt Experiment Station in Selma, Alabama. During his professional career in Alabama he was privileged to have worked with the late Dr. George Washington Carver on some of his peanut research. Five years were spent with the Alabama Department of Agriculture before he accepted a position with the United States Department of Agriculture, Soil Conservation Service in Georgia where he held various positions and worked in several cities throughout the state until his retirement December 31, 1973. He was a man of the soil and often commented on the fact that man was created from the soil and returns there. From 1957 until 1996 he made his home in Athens, Georgia. He was a member of First Baptist Church where he was active in several Sunday School classes. He was also a member of the Golden K. He loved people and made it a point to speak to everyone he met. A favorite statement of his was ''We can never have too many friends.'' In his 92 years he made many friends, all of whom he held in high regard. He leaves his legacy, a lust for life and an extremely positive attitude. Mr. McIntyre moved to Greensboro, North Carolina in 1996 to be near his daughter and her family. He enjoyed walking and making friends at Forum VI, before its renovation, and at Carolina Circle Mall. He was preceded in death by his Wife, Margaret Stroud McIntyre, his Parents, his Step-mother, Clora Myers McIntyre, Sisters Vera Wood and Eva Anne Edwards, Brother Arvey Amos McIntyre. He is survived by his Daughter and Son-in-Law, Margie and Jim Brown, Grandson, Todd McIntyre Brown, Sisters, Lois McIntyre of Heflin, Alabama and Jean Hicks of Phenix City, Alabama, sister-in-law, Lysbeth Spear of Smith's, Alabama, and one nephew. The funeral service for Mr. McIntyre will be held in the chapel of Bridges Funeral Home, Athens, Georgia on Saturday, March 11, 2000 at 4 p.m. with Dr. Jon Appleton officiating.
