Mr. Myers was the widower of Betty Zeh Myers and Helen Myers. He was an engineer for Goodyear Tire and Rubber Co. for 45 years. He was a member of the 14th Air Force Flying Tigers, 308th Bomber Group, and was a veteran of World War II serving in China, Burma and India. He was awarded five Bronze Stars. OBITUARIES Story last updated at 10:17 p.m. on Monday, September 11, 2000 George W.K. Voigt, Jr. Winterville George W.K. Voigt, Jr. of Winterville, GA (formerly of Media, PA and Port St. Lucie, FL) died May 29, 2000, after a long illness. He was 85. Voigt was born in Philadelphia and raised in Chester Heights, PA. He was a son of the late George W.K. Voigt and the late Ottilie Schlegel Voigt. He was a graduate of Media High School and began working in the mushroom industry in 1937. During World War II, he received a deferment from military service in order to remain in his position as General Manager of Concord Foods, Inc. in Concordville, PA. Instead of growing and canning mushrooms, the company was asked to process and can food for the military. After the War, Voigt went on to become very active in the mushroom and food processing industry. He was the President of Royal Treat Mushroom Co., in Concordville and Vice President of American Mushroom Corp. of Coatesville and Wilmington, D.E. After serving two terms on the Board of Directors of the PA Canners and Food Processing Association, he was elected President of that group in 1968. Voigt was a member of the Rotary Club of Concordville and a member of the Concord Country Club. He retired to Port St. Lucie, FL in 1970 with his second wife, the late Aida T. Voigt. He is survived by a sister, Katherine M. Whiteley, of Lansdale, PA and a brother, Thomas J.K. Voigt, of Manheim, PA. and his first wife, Jeannette Belle, of Yardley, PA. Two daughters, Lee Laden of Philadelphia and Jeanne Tenner Hist of Winterville, GA. Four grandsons, Scott M. Laden of Yardley, PA, Lawrence D. Tenner of Athens, GA, Drew M. Laden of Paoli, PA and Jeffrey S. Tenner of Birmingham, AL. Two granddaughters, Michelle Hist Wikle of Stillwater, OK and Jennifer Hist Harman of Duluth, GA. Also, five great- granddaughters and one great-grandson. Mr. Voigt directed that his body be donated to the Medical College of GA. A memorial service was held earlier in June in Philadelphia, PA.
