OBITUARIES Story last updated at 7:45 a.m. on Thursday, April 13, 2000 James Marston Fitch Architect NEW YORK -- James Marston Fitch, an architect whose writings and teachings helped further the cause of preservationists, died Monday. He was 90. Fitch was the director of historic preservation at Beyer Blinder Belle, the Manhattan architectural firm that recently completed a renovation of Grand Central Terminal. He advocated construction of a new staircase on the east end of the concourse to complement one already on the west end. Before and after World War II, Fitch was an editor at Architectural Record, Architectural Forum and House Beautiful in New York.
