Gunter Athens Wendell Talmadge Gunter, 59, died Wednesday, July 12, 2000. A native of Walton County, Mr. Gunter was a son of the late Roy Lee and Lizzie Dorsey Gunter. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of the Vietnam War and was a member of VFW Post 2872. He was a retired carpenter and small engine repairman. Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Bridges Funeral Home with the Rev. Tom Lang officiating. Survivors include a son, Scott Hefner, Clarksville; three sisters, Robbie Nash, Hoschton, Virginia Cooper, Statham, and Joyce Flanigan, Hull; a brother, Charles L. ''Mack'' Rhodes, 85, of 727 Riverhill Drive died Wednesday, July 12, 2000, after an extended illness. A native of Clarke County, Mr. Rhodes was a son of the late Julian G. and Leila Craft Rhodes. He was the retired and former owner of Pepsi Cola Bottling Co. of Athens, Classic City Bottling Co., City Bottling Co., and Sunbelt Beverages. He was formerly the 10th District Director of the Georgia Bottlers Association. He was a member of the Touchdown Club of Athens. He was a member of Prince Avenue Baptist Church where he was trustee and member of the Matthew's Bible Class. Services will be on Friday, July 14, 2000 at 11:00 a.m. at Prince Avenue Baptist Church with the Rev. Bill Ricketts officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Memorial Park. Survivors include his wife, Irene Dunson Rhodes, Athens; a son and daughter-in-law, Don and Julie Rhodes, Watkinsville; a daughter and son-in-law, Rea and Melton Long, Athens; 3 grandchildren, Randy and Tanya Long, Danielsville, and Tracy Long, Athens; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Dozier Rhodes and Claude Rhodes. Honorary pallbearers will be the Matthew's Bible Class of Prince Avenue Baptist Church. Flowers are optional and memorials may be made to the Prince Avenue Baptist Church Building Fund in Memory of Mack Rhodes, P.O. Box 1112, Athens, GA 30603. OBITUARIES Story last updated at 10:36 p.m. on Wednesday, July 12, 2000 Elizabeth Kay Rapp Athens Elizabeth Kay Rapp, of 398 Cedar Springs Dr., died Monday, July 10, at Emory University Hospital, from complications following a bone marrow transplant. She was 38. Born in Longview, Texas, Mrs. Rapp was the daughter of Louis Wayne Krabe and Bobbie Sellers Krabe of Atlanta. In 1980, she graduated from Sequoyah High School and moved to Athens, where she attended the University of Georgia, receiving a B.A. in Psychology in 1984, an M.S. in Child and Family Development in 1989, and an M.E. in Behavioral Disorders in 1991. For more than twelve years, Mrs. Rapp was actively involved in child development programs in Athens and the surrounding area. She was associated with Northeast George RESA and for several years served as a preschool special education teacher in Oglethorpe County Elementary School. At the time of her illness, she was working as an early intervention specialist with Babies Can't Wait in Athens. She was widely known for her remarkable skill and devotion in working with small children. To both colleagues and parents, it was evident that she was a uniquely gifted teacher. Among her other activities, she was a member of Green Acres Garden Club and the Northeast Georgia Coalition. She also served on the Board of Trustees of the Athens Montessori School. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Rapp is survived by her husband Carl Rapp; her son Robbie (aged seven); her daughter Rebecca (aged four); her three sisters: Kim Barnes of Jacksonville, Florida; Kelly Spiggle of Charlottesville, Virginia; and Kristie Krabe of New York; two stepchildren: Chris Rapp of Denver, Colorado, and Martha Webster of Watkinsville, GA; three step grandchildren, Nate, Carl and Graham. Lord and Stephens Funeral Home, 4355 Lexington Rd., is in charge of arrangements. Visitation will be on Friday, July 14, from 7-9pm. Funeral services will be on Saturday at Trinity Lutheran Church, 2535 Jefferson Rd., at 11 am. Interment will be in Athens Memory Gardens.
