A native of Franklin County, Mrs. Smith was a daughter of the late Bart and Flora Haynie Maret, and was the widow of Mearman Agnew Smith. She was retired from the textile industry and was a member of the T.E.L. Sunday School Class of the Pleasant Hill Baptist Church. Services will be at 2 p.m. today at Hamby Funeral Home, Lavonia, with Dr. Billy Owensby and the Revs. Bill Stacey and Gary McWhorter officiating. Burial will be in the Franklin Memorial Gardens North. Survivors include four daughters, Juanita Roach and Rachel Cobb, both of Martin, Flora Beggs, Canon, and Opal Allen, Anderson, S.C.; a son, Hugh Dorsey Smith, Morrow; two sisters, Evelyn Smith, Anderson, S.C., and Sarah Ivey, Lincolnton; a brother, Guy Maret, Lavonia; 13 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren. He was an engineer with CSX Transportation and was a member of the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers. He was of the Baptist faith. A native of Moultrie, GA, she was a daughter of the late Dr. Robert W. and Pauline Reid Bryant of Moultrie. She was preceded in death by a son, William E. Rice, brother, John Reid Bryant and sister, Miriam Bryant Gurley. Mrs. Rice had lived in Oconee County since 1965. She attended Middle Georgia College for Women and was a professional florist in the Athens area for many years and was an avid volunteer for the Oconee County 4-H Club. Funeral services will be Monday, May 15, 2000 at 11:00 AM at Lord and Stephens Chapel, WEST with Rev. Jerry Thompson officiating. Interment will be in Evergreen Memorial Park. Survivors include her husband, Dr. Charles E. Rice; 2 sons and daughters in law, Thomas M. and Anna M. Rice of Bowman and James Spencer and Deborah A. Rice of Buford; Brother, Robert W.
