Mrs. Saye was the widow of Dr. Albert Berry Saye, noted professor of political science at the University of Georgia. She was the daughter of Percy John Randolph Kendrick and Julia Augusta Thornhill Kendrick and was born in Pavo, Georgia. Mrs. Saye graduated from Bessie Tift College and the University of Georgia. She was secretary to the head of the Department of Political Science and secretary and administrative assistant to the Dean of the Graduate School at the University of Georgia. Mrs. Saye was a member of the First Baptist Church of Athens where she taught Sunday School for many years. She and Dr. Saye joined with other members of the First Baptist Church in founding Milledge Avenue Baptist Church where they were active until it was well-established when they returned to the First Baptist Church. Mrs. Saye was a member of the Wednesday Study Club and both she and Dr. Saye were avid gardeners specializing in the cultivation of roses. Graveside services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Wednesday at the Rutledge Town Cemetery in Rutledge, Georgia. Dr. Jon Appleton, Pastor emeritus of the First Baptist Church of Athens, will conduct the services. Survivors include a number of cousins and devoted nieces and nephews of Dr. Saye. As an alternative to flowers, friends may make contributions to the First Baptist Church of Athens Foundation, 355 Pulaski St., Athens, GA 30601, in memory of Mrs. Saye. A native of Jackson County, Mrs. Walker was a daughter of the late Julius P. and Caroline H. Williamson and was the widow of David Walker. She was a member of Central Presbyterian Church and was a graduate of the Martin Institute. She was a former member of the Thursday Club, Sunset Garden Club and Georgia Power Woman's Club. Services were at 1 p.m. Tuesday in Evergreen Memorial Park with Dr. Robert Bohler Jr. officiating. A native of Hart County, Mr. Campbell was a son of the late William E. Jr. and Eula Sewell Campbell. He was a retired farmer and was a member of Holly Springs Baptist Church, where he was a former deacon and Sunday school superintendent. Services will be at 4 p.m. Thursday at Holly Springs Baptist Church. Burial will be in the church cemetery. OBITUARIES Story last updated at 8:24 a.m. on Wednesday, February 16, 2000 Dean Davenport Fighter pilot PANAMA CITY, Fla. -- Retired Air Force Col. Dean Davenport, co-pilot of the bomber ''Ruptured Duck'' during the daring Doolittle Raid on Japan early in World War II, has died. He was 81. Davenport, who had battled cancer and recovered from a stroke and heart surgery as well as two plane crashes during his lifetime, died Monday at a Panama City hospital. Lt. Ted W. Lawson, Davenport's pilot, wrote a book about the Doolittle Raid titled ''Thirty Seconds Over Tokyo.'' A lifelong resident of Wilkes County, Mr. Pierce was a son of the late Jean William Sr. and Louise Pope Pierce. He was a member of Washington Church of the Mediator and was a U.S. Navy and Air Force veteran. He was the city attorney for Washington for many years and was a former county attorney for Wilkes County. He was a former member of the Washington Kiwanis Club and the board of governors for the State Bar of Georgia. Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Washington Church of the Mediator with the Revs. Bill Boyd and John Via officiating. Survivors include his wife, Helen Young Pierce; a daughter, Helen Louise Bradner, Richmond, Va.; three sons, Jean William Pierce III, Memphis, Tenn., Robert Cooper Pierce, Atlanta, and Marshall Pope Pierce, Middleburg, Va.; and seven grandchildren.
