He was a member of Elberton First United Methodist Church and the VFW. He was a retired truck driver for the Mason Dixon Co. and was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. A native of Oconee County, she was a daughter of the late John O. and Harriett Marshall McRee, and the widow of James Lamar Elder. She graduated from Oconee County High School and the Georgia State College for Women in Milledgeville. Mrs. Elder taught in several schools in Morgan and Oconee counties for a number of years. Later, she was employed by the Oconee County Welfare Department, before spending many years with New Way Laundry as an accountant. Funeral services will be held Friday, March 17, 2000, at 3:00 PM at Johnson United Methodist Church. Rev. Robert Murphy and Walter Pledger will officiate. Interment will be in the church cemetery. Survivors include a brother and sister-in-law, William Carroll and Nell McRee of Athens; many nieces and nephews. Nephews will serve as pallbearers.
