She was a graduate of Mercer University in Macon and was a charter member of the Pi Mu Fraternity on the Mercer Campus. She was a charter member of the Cordele-Crisp County Delta Kappa Gamma Professional Teachers Society and was retired from the Crisp County School system, having taught high school for over 30 years. She was a longtime Pink Lady volunteer at the Crisp County Hospital and was a member of the Baptist faith.
