Bertha Arnold Carithers age 92 of Sarasota, Florida formerly of Comer, Georgia passed away peacefully on Saturday, February 12, 2000. She was born on September 15, 1907 to the late Newton and Elizabeth Arnold. She was the eldest of five children. She was married to the late Frank Carithers Sr. for 53 years. They were married on October 14, 1928. To this union two sons were born, Frank Jr. and Douglas. Frank preceded her in death. She attended elementary school in Comer, Georgia and graduated high school from Union Baptist Institute, Athens, Georgia. She received her B.S. degree from Savannah State College and M.S. degree from Atlanta University. She retired in 1970 as principal of Southside School, Colbert, GA after being an educator for 41 years. She was a member of Springfield Baptist Church, where she was a deaconess and served on many committees. Funeral services will be at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday at Springfield Baptist Church, Comer. Rev. Richard Haynes will officiate. Burial in Holly Creek Baptist Church Cemetery. The remains will lie in state 10:00 A.M. until the hour of service. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Friday night 6-7 P.M.
