Smith Greensboro L.D. Smith, 84, of 4051 Veazey Road died Wednesday, May 17, 2000. A native of Jackson County, Mr. Smith was a son of the late Marvin and Mary Prudence Smith. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II and received 11 battle stars while in Anzio Bay. He attended Liberty United Methodist Church and Greene County schools. He was retied after 22 years as a lieutenant with the Milledgeville Police Department at Central State Hospital. Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Liberty United Methodist Church, White Plains, with the Rev. Gary Nicholas officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Survivors include his wife, Dorothy Webb Smith; two sisters, Lucille Phelps and Mae Torbert, both of Greensboro; a brother, Lee Smith, Union Point; nieces and nephews.
