A native of Madison County, Mr. Burden was a son of the late Mack and Lettie King Burden. He was a member of Oak Grove Baptist Church, where he served as chairman of deacons and was choir director for 30 years. He was a farmer and meter technician with Westinghouse and was a U.S. Navy veteran. Services will be at 3 p.m. Sunday at Oak Grove Baptist Church with the Revs. James Page and James Creason officiating. The body will be placed in the church at 2:30 p.m. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Survivors include his wife, Julia Evelyn Haddock Burden; three sons, Lanier Burden, Stacey Burden and David Burden, all of Comer; a sister, Nell Herford, Hazel Green, Ala.; and two brothers, Hale Burden, Tucker, and Ray Burden, Conyers. Pallbearers will be Fred Compton, James Dixon, Dean Wade, James Cooper, Mark Therkeld and Cody Therkeld. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II and was retired as operations manager for IBM after 36 years.
