Thomas, 94, died Saturday, March 18, 2000. A native of Morgan County, Mrs. Thomas was a daughter of the late Will Kinney and Mattie Ruark Kinney, was the widow of Claud A. Thomas, and was preceded in death by a son, John W. Pullin. She was a member of the High Shoals United Methodist Church. Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Arthur Bowick's Oconee Chapel with the Revs. Jeff Thomas and Wayman Whitehead officiating. Burial will be in Oconee Memorial Park. McCurley Jr., 76, a beloved and respected lifetime resident of Madison County passed away Saturday, March 18, 2000 at the Athens Regional Medical Center. Mr. McCurley was the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. G.W. McCurley Sr. He attended the University of Georgia before entering the Navy during World War II. When he returned home, he became one of the most successful farmers in Madison County. He was a longtime member and served on the Board of Directors of the Madison County Farm Bureau for more than 20 years. He was a member of the Colbert Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by a son, Greg McCurley. Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Eloise Ginn McCurley, Winterville; daughters, Donna Jarnigan, Winterville, and Linda Murray, Athens; grandson, Scott and Angela McCartey, Colbert; great-grandsons, Eli and Hayes McCartey, Colbert; siblings, Henry McCurley, Augusta, Woodlyn Chastain, Athens, Pearl Wallace, Ellenwood, Ga.; Hilda Hardeman and Grady McCurley, Athens, and a number of nieces and nephews. Pallbearers will be Mark Hansford, Dr. Dan Daniels, Roger Murray, Paul Burroughs, Narlan Lord, Jerry Lord, Charles McCartey and John Wagner. Honorary pallbearers will be the Board of Directors of the Madison County Farm Bureau. Funeral services will be 3 p.m. Monday at Colbert Baptist Church with the Rev. Don Fuller officiating. Interment will be in the Colbert City Cemetery. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, Clarke County Unit, or to stroke research.
