OBITUARIES Story last updated at 8:56 a.m. on Sunday, February 20, 2000 Carolyn White Heard Athens Carolyn White Heard, 68, passed away Friday, February 18, 2000, at the Athens Regional Medical Center. She was born in Rockmart, Georgia on May 10, 1931 the daughter of the late Charles Walter White and Lenora Simmerville White. Mrs. Heard received a BS degree in business administration and a master's degree in music education from Auburn University. She had worked toward a doctorate degree in business education under a fellowship at the University of Georgia. She also majored in horticulture at UGA. An accomplished pianist, she played for her churches in Rockmart, Ga., West Point, Ga., Moultrie, Ga., Athens, Ga., and Annondale, Va. During her travels, she was able to play piano in Bangladesh and Japan. In Athens, she was an active CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocate) volunteer and worked with the Athens-Clarke County Juvenile Court System. She was a member of the Auburn University Alumni Association and was active in the Greater Athens Auburn Club. Funeral services will be held Monday at 11 o'clock at the Milledge Avenue Baptist Church with Dr. Edward R. Bolen officiating. Burial will be at 2 o'clock Tuesday in West Point, Ga. Survivors include her husband, Roland S. Heard II, Athens, Ga.; daughter and son-in-law, Carolyn Lenore and Spence Higgins, Dalton, Ga.; sons and daughters-in-law, Shaefer and Cathy Heard, Watkinsville, Ga., and Sidney and Laura Heard, Birmingham, Ala.; grandchildren, Ally and Margaret Higgins, Dalton, Ga., Cristin and Callie Heard, Watkinsville, Ga., and Jami and Chase Heard, Birmingham, Ala.; brother and sister-in-law, Dr. Marlin and Sarah White, New Providence, N.J.; and a number of cousins, nieces and nephews.
