A native of Hart County, Mr. Hodges was a son of the late Walter G. and Mary S. Hodges. He was retired as owner and operator of Hodges Packaging Co., Athens, and was a member of Athens Country Club and St. James Methodist Church. Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Hartwell First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Kent Reynolds and Jim Kilgo officiating. Survivors include his wife, Shirley Temple Hodges; a daughter, Laura S. Hodges, Greenville, S.C.; a son, William E. Hodges Jr., Greenville; a brother, John Hodges, Winchester, Tenn.; a grandson. A native of Madison County, Mrs. Christian was a daughter of the late Zack and Mae Lively Carrington and was the widow of Jesse James Christian. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Lorene Christian, and by a son, Lloyd N. Christian. She was a homemaker and was a dietitian at Meadow School lunchroom for many years. She was a member of Cedar Grove Baptist Church, where she formerly taught the primary class and was church pianist. Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Pruitt Funeral Home, Royston, with the Revs. Martin T. Coile, Darvin Cash and Malcolm Herndon officiating. Burial will be in Meadow Baptist Church Cemetery. A native of Madison County, Mrs. Fowler was a daughter of the late William and Amanda Crawford LaCount and was the widow of Thomas Haskell Fowler. She was preceded in death by five sons, Wayne Fowler, Gerald Fowler, David Fowler, Bobby Fowler and Jason Fowler. She was a homemaker and was a member of Bowman Church of God. OBITUARIES Story last updated at 10:26 p.m. on Tuesday, September 19, 2000 Mary Stark Davison Bowers Athens Mrs. Mary Stark Davison Bowers passed away on September 16, 2000 after a courageous battle with lymphoma. She died peacefully at her residence surrounded by her family. Mrs. Bowers was born in Athens on September 28, 1914 at the original Saint Mary's Hospital on Harris Street. She grew up living on Woodlawn Avenue and then on University Drive where she has continued to live for the last 36 years. She was the daughter of Albert Edward and Star Campbell Cobb Davison both of Athens, the granddaughter of Andrew Jackson Cobb and the great-granddaughter of Howell Cobb. Mrs. Bowers is a graduate of Athens High School and the University of Georgia. In 1940 she married Aaron Newton Bowers, Jr., of Athens, a career officer in the United States Navy. During 25 years of active duty, they lived in 10 places in the continental United States as well as in the Panama Canal Zone and Hawaii before returning to Athens in 1964. Captain Bowers passed away in 1994. Mrs. Bowers was loved by all that knew her, but will be particularly missed by her immediate family; her two sons: Albert Davison Bowers and his wife Betty of Athens, and Aaron Newton Bowers III and his wife Daphne of Macon; and her five grandchildren: Christine Lynn Orders and her husband Jim of Phoenix, Arizona, Catherine Anne Hickey and her husband Steve of Dallas, Texas, Aaron Newton Bowers IV, William Randall Bowers, and Carson Leegate all of Macon. Funeral Services for Mrs. Bowers will be held at Emmanuel Episcopal Church at 10:00 A.M. on Thursday, September 21, 2000 with the Rev. Mandy Brady officiating, followed by interment in a private graveside ceremony for family only at Oconee Hills Cemetery. Her family will receive guests at her home at 320 University Drive from 1:00 until 5:00 P.M. the day of her funeral.
