A native of Franklin County, Mrs. Pilgrim was a daughter of the late Will and Nezzie Carey Boleman and was the widow of Lewis Andrew Pilgrim. She was preceded in death by a son, David Andrew Pilgrim. She was a homemaker, was a member of Pennington Chapel United Methodist Church and attended Hannah's Creek Baptist Church. Burks Bogart Funeral services for John T. Burks, 58, of 1161 Millstone Run, Bogart, Ga., will be held at First Baptist Church, Social Circle, on Thursday, August 24, 2000 at 11:00 A.M. Reverend William C. Tribble will officiate. Interment will be at Southview Cemetery, Highway 19 South in Thomaston, Ga., with Lord and Stephens Funeral Home of Bogart, Ga. in charge of arrangements. Dr. Burks was a native of Upson County. He graduated from Mercer University, received a Master's Degree from East Carolina University and a Ph.D. from Georgia State University. He served in the United States Army and the Army Reserve from 1965 through 1972. Dr. Burks was an educator and humanitarian. He received the Army Commendation Medal and the Humanitarian Award from the A.P. Henderson Scholarship Fund. He was a member and deacon of the First Baptist Church of Sylvester, Ga., and later, a member of Social Circle First Baptist Church and the First United Methodist Church of Athens, Ga. He was a member and past president of Social Circle Rotary Club. Dr. Burks was Superintendent of Schools in Worth County, Ga. from 1972 through 1976. From 1976 until 1994 he served as Superintendent of Schools in Social Circle. Most recently, he was District Services Director for the Clarke County School System. Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Nan Middlebrooks Burks of Bogart, Ga., a son Jeff P. Burks of Franklin, Tn., a daughter Christa Burks Bailey of Athens, Ga.; two brothers: James Burks, Jr. of Birmingham, Al., and Paul Burks of Kingsport, Tn.
