He was a native of Jefferson County, Ga., and was the son of the late Mr. William Harvey and Sarah Peeples Spell. He received a BS degree in education from Georgia Southern University in 1959, a master of education at the University of Georgia in 1964, a master of fine arts from the University of Georgia in 1967, and a doctor of philosophy in fine arts in 1976 from Florida State University. Mr. Spell was a retired professor. He was a member of the Speech Communication Association, Southern Speech Association, Georgia Theater Conference, Phi Kappa Phi (a national scholastic honor society), and was included in the Personalities of the South. He also received the Outstanding Educator of 1975 Award. Services will be Sunday, Jan. 23, 2000 at 3:00 p.m. at St. James United Methodist Church with Rev. Kent Reynolds officiating. A private burial will be Monday at Bethany Cemetery in Wadley, Ga. Survivors include an aunt and uncle, Albert and Martha Hamm of Augusta, Ga.; cousins, Harry and Kathy Hamm of Augusta, Ga.; David and Martha Ann Hargrove of North Augusta, S.C.; and Richard and Carol Fleder of Augusta, Ga. A native of Madison County, she was a daughter of the late Grover and Ola Thompson Johnson and the widow of Ralph Williams. She was preceded in death by two sisters, Sue Draper and Helen Hollis and a brother, Paul Johnson. Mrs. Williams was owner and operator of Frances' Florist for 40 years. She was a member of VFW Auxiliary, DAV and Hull Baptist Church. Funeral Services will be Monday, January 24, 2000 at 2:00 p.m. at Hull Baptist Church with the Rev. Randy Crowe officiating. Murray, died Saturday morning, January 22, 2000, in Augusta, Ga. Mrs. Murray was born May 23, 1923 in Stephens County a daughter of the late David and Josie Rumsey Spearman and had lived most of her life in Toccoa and for the past eight years in Augusta. She was a homemaker and member of the First Baptist Church. Survivors include two sons, Roger Murray of Atlanta and Randy Murray of Toccoa; one daughter, Sally Lamperti of Key West, Florida; one sister, Ruth S. Mathews of Toccoa; two brothers, Matt Spearman of Harlem, Ga., and John Spearman of Alpharetta, Ga.; five grandchildren, Elizabeth Murray and Claire Murray, both of Toccoa, Jimmy Tharpe, Michael Murray and Wilson Murray, all of Atlanta. Born in Falcon, N.C., Mrs. Shealy was the daughter of the late Robert E. and Hazel A. Robinson and grew up in Washington D.C. She attended Franklin Springs Pentecostal Holiness Church and was a member of Winterville First Baptist Church. She taught Sunday School, Bible studies, and served as church organist for many years. She was active in the Winterville community Silver-Haired club and was also active in many Christian and service organizations throughout her life. Her goal in life was to serve others and to glorify Jesus Christ in all she did. She was a loving and supportive wife, mother, and grandmother. She served as secretary to her husband's business, Shealy Farms, Inc. Services will be on Sunday, January, 23, at Winterville First Baptist Church, at 3:00 p.m. The body will lie in state from 2:00 p.m. until the hour of the service. Rev. John W. Swails, Rev. Lonnie Norris, Rev. Rick Standard and Rev. Ray Newman will be officiating. Burial will be at Athens Memory Gardens. Survivors include her husband, J.
