OBITUARIES Story last updated at 10:14 p.m. on Thursday, June 22, 2000 Nellie Harris Winn Athens Nellie Harris Winn, 94, died Thursday, June 22, 2000 at Family Life Enrichment Center. She was born October 13, 1905, near Crawford, GA. She was the daughter of the late Joseph and Mattie Graham Harris. She was the widow of James Harden Winn, who she married in 1927. They lived in Athens until his death in 1962. She moved to Chamberd, a retirement home in Roswell, from 1991-1999. She had been in failing health since December 1999. She was a member of Prince Avenue Baptist Church. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Rachel and Harold Short, Athens; three grandsons and their wives, Bill and Sally Short, Jim Short and Joan Hodges, and Stan and Julie Short; and six great grandchildren. Graveside services will be held at Evergreen Memorial Park at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 24, 2000 with Rev. Bill Ricketts officiating. Figueroa Athens Rolando Garcia Figueroa, 47, of Athens, Georgia, died Monday, June 19th, at Poudre Valley Hospital in Fort Collins, Colorado. Rolando (''Ro'') was born December 23, 1952, in Marianao, Havana, Cuba, to Gladys Garcia Figueroa and Rolando Figueroa. He emigrated to this country with his family in 1962 and had resided in Orlando, Florida and Athens, Georgia since then. He married Kathy Smith on March 7, 1998 in Georgia. Ro graduated from the University of Georgia with his doctorate in clinical psychology. He practiced in Athens, providing support to many individuals in the area and the state. Ro loved water-skiing, playing softball, being outdoors, and spending time with his family. Survivors include his wife, Kathy Smith, two daughters, Ariana Figueroa and Marisa Figueroa, his parents, Gladys Figueroa and Rolando Figueroa all of Athens, Georgia, and his brother, Jorge Luis Figueroa, Fort Collins, Colorado. OBITUARIES Story last updated at 10:14 p.m. on Thursday, June 22, 2000 William B. Hynd Athens William B. Hynd, 93, of 635 Riverbend Parkway died Saturday, June 17, 2000. A native of Heppner, OR, Mr. Hynd was the son of the late Robert and Agnes Brown Hyng and the widower of Flavell Hayner Hynd. He graduated from the University of Oregon in 1930, majoring in international finance. From 1930 to 1941 he was a sales manager for the Union Oil Company in Vancouver, WA. In addition to serving in the South and Western Pacific Theaters during World War II, he served tours of duty in Italy, California, Formosa, and Hawaii prior to his retirement from the Air Force in 1960 as a Lt. Colonel. During his retirement on Bainbridge Island in Washington, he served as the President of the Wing Point Golf and Country Club. He was of the Presbyterian Faith. Memorial Services will be held on Saturday, June 24, 2000 at Bernstein Funeral Home with Rev. Luther Fouche officiating. Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, George and Cynthia Hynd, Athens; grandchildren, Brian Hynd, Eugene, OR and April Hynd, Honolulu, HI.
