She was the daughter of the late Ralph and Annie Bell Allgood Jackson. Mrs. Whitehead had retired from Westinghouse in 1987 after 29 years. She was an active member of the First Christian Church of Athens. Mrs. Whitehead shared 61 years of a loving marriage with John B. Whitehead. In addition to her husband, she is survived by three daughters, Elaine Mathis, Kathryn Griffith and Brenda Strickland; and son-in-law, Paul Griffith. She is known as ''DaDa'' to her five grandchildren, Jeff Griffith, Deana Simpson, Jennifer Strickland, Jaime Strickland and Terri Mathis; and to her three great-grandchildren, Kasie Griffith, Jacob Griffith and Joshua Simpson. Visitation will be held Sunday, June 25 at Bridges Funeral Home from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. The funeral will be held at the First Christian Church of Athens, Monday, June 26 at 11:00 a.m. with Dr. Ray Austin officiating. Sanborn Athens Dr. Sanborn, 70, of 210 Riverview Road, Athens, passed away from heart failure in the emergency room of Athens Regional Medical Center very early Thursday morning. A retired professor of business management and speech communication and a published author in his field, he taught at a number of distinguished institutions, including the University of Virginia, Northwestern University, and for a number of years, at the University of Georgia. He received his B.A. from U.C.L.A., his M.A. from Cornell University and his Ph.D. from Purdue University. He also served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War. Dr. Sanborn's parents were Col. Hal C. Sanborn and Mrs. Ladya J. Sanborn (stepmother), late of Santa Monica California, and Mrs. Ann F. Gray, late of Athens. He is survived by his daughter, Diane S. Calloway, and son-in-law, George C. Calloway, of Atlanta; his sister, Sister Barbara Mary Sanborn, of Tsu, Japan; and his special friend, Doris N. Sanborn, of Athens. Funeral arrangements are through Lord & Stephens, Lexington Road. There will be a memorial mass on Sunday, June 25, 2000 at 3:00 p.m. at the St. Mary's Hospital Covent Chapel off of Baxter Street in Athens. (The Covent Chapel is behind the main hospital building, as opposed to the small chapel actually within the hospital itself.) There will be no visitation hours prior to the mass, but friends are warmly invited to join the family afterward at his home for a celebration of his life. If anyone is thinking about a memorial tribute, he was always a real animal lover. He would no doubt have been delighted if a donation was made in his honor to The Athens Area Humane Society.
