Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Smith Funeral Home with the Rev. Max Wall officiating. Burial will be in Barrow Memorial Gardens. OBITUARIES Story last updated at 11:10 p.m. on Sunday, June 25, 2000 Dr. Howard D. Edwards Sandy Springs Dr. Howard D. Edwards, retired Georgia Tech professor, 76, died Sunday, June 25, 2000 at his home in Sandy Springs. He was a native of Clarke County and was a son of the late Howard T. and Inez Glenn Edwards and graduate of Bogart High School. After graduating from the University of Georgia he served in the U.S. Army in the European theater. Upon his return he attended Duke University where he earned his Ph.D. in Physics. He founded the Space Science Laboratory at Georgia Tech and operated it for 30 years. He is survived by his wife Judy; son, David Bond Edwards; daughter and son-in-law, Kathy and Vic Swann of Tampa, Fla.; son and daughter-in-law, David and Paulette Bradley; daughter-in-law, Cathy Edwards, all of Atlanta. He was preceded in death by a son, Jerry Howard Edwards. He is also survived by five grandchildren, Greta Edwards Hancock and husband Jeff, Abby and Shelly Edwards, all of Atlanta; and Brent and Marlee Swann of Tampa, Fla.; his only sister and brother-in-law, Avis Edwards and Lewis Nunnally of Chattanooga, Tenn. He also has several surviving cousins in the Athens and Oconee area. Howard loved Oconee County and Athens and returned to visit friends and work around and remodel the old home place in Bogart on many occasions. He was a dedicated and active member of Sandy Springs Christian Church for over 30 years. In lieu of flowers it is suggested that donations be made to Sandy Springs Christian Church, 301 Johnson Ferry Road, NW, Atlanta, Ga. 30328. Memorial services will be held there later this week, the date to be announced. Interment will be at Arlington Cemetery following the memorial service. H.M.
