OBITUARIES Story last updated at 9:23 p.m. on Saturday, August 26, 2000 Ed (Bill) Kay Cartersville Ed (Bill) Kay, age 78 of Cartersville, passed away on August 23, 2000. A native of Athens, Ga., Bill was a proud World War II veteran, having served with the 15th Air Force as a B17 and B24 pilot. He was the founder of Atlanta Drywall. After his retirement, he actively pursued his hobbies of gardening, woodworking, stained glass and blacksmithing. Bill was a loving husband, devoted father, proud grandfather and great-grandfather, and a true friend to all whose lives he touched. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Gladys; brother, Russell and Melba Kay of Athens; son, Rick and Janes Kay; daughter, Juli Kay; grandchildren, Michael and Michele Kay, Melanie and Doug Lowry, Cindy Elkins and Brad Elkins; great-grandchildren, Sarah Lowry and Brandon Kay; and numerous other loving family members and friends. It was Bill's request that there be no solemn and sad memorial service for him. Rather, he asked that his friends and family gather together for a cheerful remembrance of him on Saturday, September 2, 2000 from 3 until 7 p.m. at his home in Cartersville.
