McEver Hoschton Joseph H. McEver, 79, died Sunday, Dec. 24, 2000. A native of Jackson County, Mr. McEver was a son of the late Joe and Cara Holland McEver. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and was retired from Chickopee Manufacturing. He was a member of Hoschton First Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon and where he received his certificate of Deacon Emeritus. A native of Wilkes County, Mrs. Langford was a daughter of the late James Herbert Griffin and Ethel Smith Griffin. She was a member of the American Dietitians Association and of the Jacksonville Bulldog Club. She was a member of the Rural Letter Carriers Auxiliary and served as its secretary/treasurer. She was a retired dietitian and was a member of Union Point First Baptist Church, where she was WMU president, young adult Sunday school class teacher and church historian. She was a former member, clerk and historian of Phillips Mill Baptist Church, where she taught an adult ladies and a young adult Sunday school class. She worked in Bible school in both churches. Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at First Baptist Church, Union Point, with the Rev. Stan Sullivan officiating. Burial will be in Phillips Mill Baptist Church cemetery, Washington. Survivors include her husband Ralph Langford; a son, Mort Hill, Washington; two stepsons, Thomas C. Langford, Jacksonville, Fla., and Mark J. A native of Greensboro, GA, he was a son of Myrna Quarles of Watkinsville. He had lived in this area all of his life and attended Oconee County High School. He was a member of Church of the Nations. OBITUARIES Story last updated at 10:12 p.m. on Tuesday, December 26, 2000 Edgar Smith Jr. Watkinsville Edgar Mitchell Smith, Jr., 73 years old, of Watkinsville, died December 26, 2000. He was the son of the late E. Mitchel and Lucile Rayle Smith, and was graduated from Elberton High School in 1944. He attended North Georgia College before entering the U.S. Naval Academy in 1946, and graduating in 1950. In 1952, he earned his Navy wings at Corpus Christi, Texas, and began a flying career that ended in retirement in 1970. During his last tour of duty in Pensacola, Florida he earned a Master's Degree in Business Management from Florida State University, and after retirement was employed by the City of Atlanta as a Financial Analyst in the Department of Finance. Subsequently he became Deputy Director of the Bureau of Motor Transport Services prior to his retirement from the City in 1992. Funeral services will be held Thursday, December 28, 2000, at 2:00 PM at the chapel of Lord and Stephens Funeral Home, East. Dr. W. Glenn Doak and Dr. Joseph Berry will officiate. Interment will be in Oconee Hill Cemetery. He is survived by his wife, Margaret Goss Smith; daughters, Linda Santiago of Nicholson, GA, and Laura Lomonaco of Ellijay, GA: two grandsons, Hector Santiago, Jr., and Zachery Lomonaco, and one brother, John R. ''Bill'' Stevens Jr., a life-long resident of Clarke County, Georgia, died Saturday, Dec. 23, 2000. He was 88. Mr. Stevens was the son of the late Mr. William F. and Emma Bailey Stevens. He was preceded in death by his wife, Florine Shackelford Stevens. Mr. Stevens was a graduate of Watkinsville High School and attended aircraft mechanic school during WWII, and he retired from Wellington Puritan Mills. He was a member of Princeton United Methodist Church. Mr. Stevens is survived by two daughters, Angelia Stevens Wood and her husband Merle of Roanoke, Va., and Billie Rene Link and her husband Thomas of Watkinsville, Ga.; one sister, Lily Pejsa of Duluth, Ga.; two grandchildren, Amy and her husband Doug Baxter of Watkinsville, Ga., and Steven and his wife Traci Link of Shaw Air Force Base, Sumter, S.C.; two great-grandchildren, Charity Elizabeth Baxter and Jordan Ard; and a number of nieces and nephews.
