A native of Wayne County, Mr. Swindell was a son of Adelaide Stafford Swindell, Athens. He was a member of Athens First Baptist Church and attended the University of Georgia, where he was a member of the UGA band. He was a U.S. Army veteran stationed at Fort McPherson, Atlanta, and was a pianist. He was a private pilot for 30 years and was retired as president and CEO of Swindell Paper Co. Services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Thomas L. Carter Funeral Home, Hinesville, with the Rev. Frank Grainger officiating. Entombment will be in Oglethorpe Mausoleum. Survivors, in addition to his mother, include four brothers, Thomas Edward Swindell and Bernard Swindell Jr., both of Athens, Paul Alonzo Swindell, Valdosta, and Daniel Stafford Swindell, Dayton, Ohio; nieces and nephews. She was retired as a nurse's aid from Nancy Hart Nursing Center and was retired as a waitress from The Branding Iron and Mini-Burger restaurants. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church.
