A native of Elbert County, Mr. Partain was a son of the late Charlie S. and Annie Lucille Rousey Partain. He was a member of Northside Baptist Church, Elberton, and was a retired truck driver. He was a U.S. Army Air Corps veteran of World War II serving in China, Burma and India. He served in the Civilian Conservation Corps camp in California and was a member of the VFW. A native of Barrow County, Mrs. Hight was a daughter of the late Robert Jackson and Edna Wall Roberts of Statham, and was the widow of Robert A. Hight. She taught at several schools in Barrow County and was a housemother at Georgia Southern and at the University of Georgia. She was a member of United Daughters of the Confederacy, Elijah Clarke Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution and Barrow County Historical Society. Services will be at 11 a.m. today at Smith Funeral Home, Winder, with the Rev. John Talley officiating. Burial will be at 3 p.m. today in Sparta Cemetery, Sparta. McCartney Athens Morley G. McCartney, 83, of Athens, died Wednesday at Athens Regional Hospital in the presence of his family. Dr. McCartney was born in Wellington, Ontario, Canada. He was the son of Hilton and Ida McCartney of Picton, Ontario, Canada and pre-deceased by his first wife, Florence H. McCartney. He is survived by his wife, Marifrances Hickman McCartney and five children: daughter and son-in-law Judy and Bob Forbes of Gainesville, GA; daughter Pat McCartney of Molokai, HA; daughter and son-in-law Elizabeth and David Newkirk of Plymouth, WI; son and daughter-in-law John and Alicia McCartney of Athens, GA, and daughter and son-in-law Mary and David Mitchell of Gainesville, GA. Surviving grandchildren are Rob, Andy and Megan Forbes; Ivy Dillberg and Carmen McCartney; Alex and Charlotte Newkirk; Katherine McCartney and Christine and Rosalind Mitchell, and a number of nieces and nephews. Dr. McCartney served in the Royal Canadian Air Force during WWII, did his undergraduate work at Ontario Agriculture College at Guelph, Ontario, Canada and his graduate work at the University of Maryland completing his PhD in 1949. He was an associate professor at Pennsylvania State University. In 1955 he served as an Associate Chairman of Ohio's Poultry Agricultural Experiment Station at Wooster Ohio, moving to Athens in 1964 as the Poultry Science Department Chair at The University of Georgia until his retirement in 1985. Dr. McCartney was a 40 year member of the Lion's Club and a longtime member of First Presbyterian Church. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. on Saturday, October 28 at Bernstein Funeral Home in Athens. Funeral services will be at the funeral home chapel at 2 p.m. on Sunday, October 29, 2000. The Reverend Joe Berry will officiate. Pallbearers will be John D. Hewlett, Russell Edwards, Henning Brown, William C. Harshbarger, Kenneth W. Washburn and Robert L. Forbes.
