OBITUARIES Story last updated at 9:35 p.m. on Thursday, December 28, 2000 Richard Bergholz Reporter PASADENA, Calif. -- Richard Bergholz, a longtime Los Angeles Times political reporter thought to be the target of Richard Nixon's famous 1962 comment ''You won't have Nixon to kick around anymore,'' has died at 83. Bergholz died Tuesday after a stroke. Nixon had long enjoyed the Times' support under publisher Norman Chandler and clearly was not prepared for the more balanced coverage led by Bergholz after Otis Chandler took over at the Times in 1960. During the waning days of the 1962 gubernatorial race, Bergholz peppered Nixon with tough questions. Bergholz is survived by his wife, Elizabeth, two daughters, a son and three grandchildren. -- Associated Press Šopyright 2000 Athens Newspapers Inc.
