A native of Oglethorpe County, Mrs. Franklin was a daughter of the late Jack Smith and Abelina Slay Smith. She was a retired seamstress and was of the Baptist faith. Services will be at 2 p.m. today at Berry Funeral Home, Elberton, with the Rev. Calvin Coile officiating. Burial will be in the Carlton City Cemetery. Survivors include two daughters, Hilda Huguley, Carlton, and Hazel Forrester, Elberton; two sons, Dennis Franklin and Jeff Franklin, both of Comer; two sisters, Eloise Almond, Elberton, and Alma Anderson, Port Wentworth; two brothers, James Smith and Bud Smith, both of Elberton; seven grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren. A native of Habersham County, Mr. Mote was a son of the late Rev. Charlie and Frances Tench Mote. He worked at Orbit Manufacturing and was of the Baptist faith. Memorial services will be at 3 p.m. Sunday at McGahee-Griffin & Stewart Funeral Home, Cornelia, with the Rev. Melvin Stephens officiating. Mr. Mote's body was donated to science. Survivors include his wife, Barbara Joan McEntire Mote; two daughters, Marcia Elaine Ramey, Cleveland, and Mary Ann Lawrence, Homer; a son, Michael Mote, Demorest; a sister, Barbara Ann Echols, Demorest; 12 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. A native of Clay County, N.C., Mrs. Smith was a daughter of the late Arthur and Delty Erwin Wood. She graduated from Hayesville North Carolina High School and attended Martha Berry College in Rome. She graduated with a BS degree in home economics from Georgia State College for Women in 1953. She taught school in the Oconee County School System in Walhalla, S.C. In 1958 she and her husband started Smith's Pharmacy, later Smith's Discount Drugs, now Stewart's Discount Drugs. She was a member of the Toccoa Garden Club, The Toccoa Bird Club and Currahee Squares. She served as the secretary of the Stephens County Republican Party and was president of the Downtown Merchant's Association. She was a member of the Toccoa First United Methodist Church where she taught Sunday School, served on the administrative board, was chairperson of the membership committee, alter guild, food committee and day circle. Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at the First United Methodist Church with the Revs. Jim Bocian, Bob Partridge, Claude Smithmier and Jack Lamb officiating. Burial will be in Stephens Memorial Gardens. Survivors include her husband, Charles W. Smith; two sons, Greg Smith, Atlanta, and Mark Smith, Marietta; two sisters, Ella Lilly, Lapeer, Mich., and Virginia Flannery, Denver, Colo.; four brothers, Jim Wood, Vero Beach, Fla., John Wood, Warne, N.C., Bob Wood, Tulsa, Okla., and Jack Wood, Hayesville; two grandchildren; nieces and nephews. Grant Elberton Judge William F. Grant, 70, of 512 Rhodes Drive died Thursday, Dec. 28, 2000. A native of Helena, Mr. Grant was a son of the late Rev. A.O. Grant and Annie Forrest Hardy Grant. He graduated from Chauncey High School in 1947 and from Brewton-Parker junior college in 1949. In 1957 he graduated from the Walter F. George School of Law at Mercer University, with a juris doctorate degree. He was employed by the law firm of Stapleton & Williford where he became a partner. In 1977, he was appointed to the office of Superior Court Judge for the Northern Judicial Circuit. He was active in the Kiwanis Club of Elberton, having served as president and as Lieutenant Governor of the 7th Division and District Governor of Georgia. He served as attorney for the First National Bank from 1958 until 1977 when he became judge. He was on the First National and Pinnacle Bank boards from 1968 until 2000 and served two terms on the board of directors for the Elbert County Chamber of Commerce. He was a trustee for the Elberton Civic Center. He was a U.S. Air Force veteran having served during the Korean Conflict. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Elberton, where he was a deacon and Sunday School teacher. Services will be at 11 a.m. today at the First Baptist Church with Dr. C.E. Jackson III and the Rev. Mark Owens officiating. Burial will be in Elmhurst Cemetery. Survivors include his wife, Willene Jones Grant; a daughter, Anna Grant Kay, San Diego, Calif.; a son, William F. Grant Jr., Jackson; two sisters, Katurah Grant Kelly, Chauncey, and Sarilou Grant Woodard, Eastman; two brothers, Jack Grant, Elberton, and John C. Grant, Loganville; and two grandchildren. A native of Oglethorpe County, Mr. Crowe was the son of Junia E. and Vessie Seagraves Crowe. He was a veteran of World War II, serving with the second armored division at the ''Battle of the Bulge'', where he earned the purple heart. He wrote a book, ''Third Platoon: Second To None'', which was published in 1998. He was retired from the Atlanta Post Office. Funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at Southwest Christian Church, Atlanta, where Mr. Crowe served as elder and Sunday School Supt. for many years.
