OBITUARIES Story last updated at 11:04 p.m. on Thursday, June 29, 2000 George Weyman Potter Grass Valley, Calif. George Weyman Potter, 75, died Tuesday, June 27, 2000. A native of Jackson County, Ga., Mr. Potter was a son of late George Sanford Potter and Roxie Martin Potter, both from Georgia. He served our country for 21 years in the U.S. Navy in World War II and the Korean War. Mr. Potter was a Chief Boatswain Mate and served aboard the aircraft carrier U.S.S. Oriskany, destroyers, U.S.S. Strong and U.S.S. Fletcher, and he also served aboard the U.S.S. Kearsage. Mr. Potter married Lillian Orabona Potter in 1952 in New Jersey. At that time, he was still in the Navy serving aboard ship. George and Lillian have shared a loving marriage and friendship for the last 48 years. After serving in the Navy, Mr. Potter worked for 26 years with the California Cartage Warehousing Company until his retirement. He also enjoyed all sports and NASCAR.
