Long St., died Saturday, Dec. 30, 2000. A native of Madison County, Mrs. Saxon was a daughter of the late Joe and Mary Roberts Drake, and was the widow of Thurman Saxon. She was a retired textile spinner, a homemaker and a member of Tabernacle Baptist Church. Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Vineyard Creek Baptist Church with the Revs. Tommy Seay and Douglas Duncan officiating. The body will be placed in the church at 1:30 p.m. Burial will be in the church cemetery. He was a graduate of Purdue University, was a Marine Corps Korean War veteran and was a 30-year professor of plant pathology at the University of Georgia. He was a member of the American Phytopathological Society and the Georgia Association of Plant Pathologists, and was the recipient of many awards and honors for his research and teaching.
