Coach Whatley was a graduate of the University of Alabama. He played professional football for 3 years on the Brooklyn Dodgers team as a tackle. Coach Whatley was retired head baseball coach and also served as an assistant basketball and football coach at The University of Georgia. He was a member of the Athens First United Methodist Church.
