Mr. George Frederick Marbut, 86, of Columbia SC died Friday, December 29, 2000, at his residence. Mr. Marbut was a native of Athens, GA., the son of Henry Diamond and Ida Collins Marbut. He served in World War II in the U.S. Navy. He retired from the U.S. Postal Service in Athens. He was also a graduate of the University of Georgia. He was preceded in death by his first wife Emily Campbell Marbut, and his second wife Lilly Colquitt Marbut. Rogers, attorney general in one Republican administration, secretary of state in another, and a champion of civil rights and freedom of the press in a legal career that spanned more than 60 years, is dead at 87. Rogers, the senior partner in the law firm Rogers & Wells, died of congestive heart failure Tuesday night in Bethesda, Md. He was attorney general during the second term of President Eisenhower, a man he revered, and secretary of state to President Nixon, a longtime friend he once said ''turned out to be not quite a friend.''
