Mrs. Beckemeyer was a daughter of the late William Harvey Howell and Fannie Pearl Rentz Howell and was the widow of Delmont Emil Beckemeyer. She was a professional genealogist and former Atlanta Journal reporter. She was a 1939 graduate of Athens High School and a 1943 graduate of the University of Georgia. She was a member of Kappa Alpha Theta, Mortar Board and Phi Kappa Phi. In her senior year at the University of Georgia, Dean J.E. Drewry helped her obtain a part-time job as editor of the Victory Garden page of the Atlanta Journal. She continued as a general assignment reporter and photographer with the Atlanta Journal through 1945. She was a charter member of the Georgia Genealogical Society and was a member of the Georgia Professional Genealogists. Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at H.M. She had Parkinson's Disease. She was the wife of the late Delmont Emil Beckemeyer. She was born September 7, 1922, in Sandersville, Georgia, to Fannie Pearl Rentz Howell and William Harvey Howell. From 1926 to 1934, her family lived on Sapelo Island, Georgia. The Howell family subsequently lived in Atlanta, Rome, and Athens where she graduated from Athens High School in 1939 and the University of Georgia in 1943. She was a member of Kappa Alpha Theta, Mortar Board and Phi Kappa Phi. In her senior year at the University of Georgia, Dean J.E. Drewry helped her obtain a part-time job as editor of the Victory Garden page of the Atlanta Journal. She continued as a general assignment reporter and photographer with the Atlanta Journal through 1945. In the 1960's she began her career as a professional genealogist, teaching continuing education classes at University System schools, compiling the Georgia Colonial Conveyance Book C-1 for the R.J. Taylor Foundation, lecturing on genealogical topics, and working at the Georgia State Archives in Atlanta. She was a charter member of the Georgia Genealogical Society and a member of the Georgia Professional Genealogists. She is survived by her sister, Mary Howell Coffee Reece of Huntsville, AL; four children, William Howell Beckemeyer of Roswell GA, Elizabeth Frances Beckemeyer of Winder GA, Nancy Scott Beckemeyer of Penfield GA, and James Newton Beckemeyer of Barrow County GA; and three grandchildren, Anne Fleming Beckemeyer, Curtis Mead Beckemeyer and Catherine Lloyd Beckemeyer, all of Roswell, GA. A native of Marion Co., South Carolina, Dr. Jordan was the son of the late Cedric R. and Sara Foxworth Jordan. His wife, Dorris Opt Jordan and a brother, Capers Jordan, preceded him in death. He had resided here in Athens for over 50 years and was head of the Entomology Dept at the University of Georgia before retirement. He was a member of the Entomological Society of America, Georgia Entomological Society and the Georgia Association of County Agents. He was a veteran of World War II having served in the U.S. Army Air Corps.
