He was born in Bleckley County, Cochran, GA, on April 25, 1933, the son of the late E.C. (Ez) and Alma Mae Cook Roland. He was a retired Manager with Gulf Life Insurance Company, and a member of New Hope Congregational Church in Franklin Springs, GA. Surviving in addition to his wife, Melba, of the home, are a son and his wife, Derek M. and Rhonda M. Roland, of Anderson; two daughters and their husbands: Sherry R. and David E. Bass of Cochran, GA, and Karen R. and Don B. Sullivan of Anderson; a brother and his wife, D. Quinton Roland, Sr., and Nadine Roland, of Cochran, GA; a sister and her husband, Mary Ellen R. and Frank Ed McKinney, of Rochelle, Ga. Grandchildren Casey L. Bass and Gina M. Bass of Cochran, GA, Hannah Roland and Tyler Nelson Roland of Anderson, and Matthew Edward Sullivan of Anderson. A sister-in-law, Mrs. Joseph D. (Evelyn) Roland, of Jesup, GA. He was preceded in death by brothers, Felton Roland and Joseph D. Roland. Funeral services will be at 2 P.M. Sunday at Fisher Funeral Home in Cochran, GA by the Rev. Jonathan Randall, the Rev. Dennis Keasler, the Rev. Bill F. McKinney, and the Rev. David Q. Roland, Jr. Burial will be in Union Hill Baptist Church cemetery. Pallbearers will be Dennis Roland, Sr., Gene Roland, Alton Roland, Bobby McKinney, Bryant Scott, R. Keith Scott, Jay Foxworthy, Casey Bass, and Matthew Sullivan. The body is at Sullivan-King Mortuary, Northeast Chapel, 3205 North Highway 81, where the family will receive friends from 6 until 8 P.M. Friday. The body will be transported to Cochran, GA where the family will receive friends from 7 to 9 P.M. Saturday at Fisher Funeral Home. The family is at the home in Anderson, and will be at the home of Sherry and David Bass, Route 3, Smith-Sapp Road in Cochran, GA. Flowers are optional.
