Highway 59, died Saturday, May 5, 2001. A native of Westminster, S.C., Mr. Prater was a son of the late Willie and Ruby Pritchard Prater. He owned and operated Prater's Food Service for 35 years and was associated with Kraft Foods and AT&T. He was a brother Mason for 36 years and was a member of Mountain View Lodge 692 and Carnesville Lodge 186. He attended Faith Presbyterian Church. Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Ginn Funeral Home with the Rev. Joe Renfro officiating. Burial will be in Franklin Memorial Gardens. Survivors include his wife, Maxine Beaty Prater; a daughter, Winnette Payne, Carnesville; a son, Marion Prater, Tucker; three sisters, Mary Ann Cole and Barbara Jean Honea, Westminster, S.C., and Louise Spearman, West Union, S.C.; and six grandchildren. A native of Elbert County, Mr. Harbert was a son of the late Charles and Mary Ann Brown Harbert, was the widower of Sara Bell Jones Harbert and was preceded in death by a daughter, Josephine Jordan. He was a farmer and a retired farm equipment mechanic for Ray's Equipment Company. He was a former member of the Salvation Army and was of the Baptist faith. Services will be at 4 p.m. Tuesday at Bowers Memorial Gardens with the Rev. Lewis officiating. OBITUARIES Story last updated at 10:09 p.m. on Sunday, May 6, 2001 Rebecca Walker Griffin Rebecca Roddenbery Walker, 71, died on May 5, 2001 after a lengthy illness. Born in Cairo, Georgia, she was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Julian B. Roddenbery Sr. She graduated from Cairo High School, attended Wesleyan College and graduated from the University of Georgia. She was a member of the Chi Omega Sorority. She taught elementary school in Florida and in Griffin, Georgia. In Griffin, she taught the 4th grade Sunday School Class at the First Baptist Church for over 30 years. Among other organizations, she was an active member of the Utility Club, the Wisteria Club, the Griffin Music Club, and the Community Concert Board. She will be remembered most for the unconditional love she gave her family, friends and the hundreds of children she taught. She loved music, flowers, traveling and dancing. She and her husband, Henry, shared 49 years of love and devotion to each other. She continued to live fully as she fought a long and courageous battle against cancer without complaint. A beautiful example of how life should be lived, she will live on in the hearts of all those who were blessed with her love. She is survived by: her husband, J. Henry Walker III, Griffin; daughter, Eleanor Walker, Athens; daughter and son-in-law, Margaret Walker Brown and David N. Brown; son and daughter-in-law, J. Henry Walker IV and Laine S. Walker; four grandchildren, Walker R. Jones, Athens, Mitchell A. Jones, Athens, Elizabeth Rebecca Walker, Atlanta, and Margaret W. Walker, Atlanta; a sister, Martha Roddenbery Scott, San Francisco, Calif; and numerous nephews and nieces. A native of Toombs County, he was a son of the late Preston D. and Maude Spell Winge. He was a 1938 graduate of the University of Georgia with a Bachelor of Science in Agriculture and was retired from Sears as Senior Buyer with 35 years service. Mr. Winge was a member of various civic clubs, was the first president for Georgia FFA, Vice President for the National FFA and Georgia State AARP Tax Commissioner for a number of years. He was a veteran of the US Air Force having served 6 years active duty and 28 years active reserve, attaining the rank of Lt. Colonel. Mr. Winge was an active member of Green Acres Baptist Church. Funeral services will be Monday, May 7, 2001 at 11:00 a.m. at Green Acres Baptist Church with Rev. Mark Babin officiating. Interment will be in Evergreen Memorial Park.
