A native of Sykesville, Pa., Mr. Reiter was a widower of Mary Reiter. He was preceded in death by children, Donald A. Reiter and Dorothy Kelly. He was a production foreman at International Mineral Company in Niagara Falls, N.Y., before he retired to Winter Haven, Fla. in 1972. He was a fifty year member of the Masons, a longtime volunteer at Winter Haven Hospital, and was the oldest charter member of Oconee Presbyterian Church. She was a graduate of Cumberland University and a member and President of Sigma Delta Sigma Society. She taught at Lebanon High School before becoming a wife and homemaker. She was formerly a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Lebanon, Tenn., and later became a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Athens. OBITUARIES Story last updated at 9:45 p.m. on Thursday, June 7, 2001 John C.F. Tillson III Fort Gordon commander Associated Press AUGUSTA -- Retired Maj. Gen. John C.F. Tillson III, commander of Fort Gordon from 1968 to 1971, died Wednesday after a brief battle with cancer. He was 86. Tillson, a veteran of World War II and Vietnam, served 33 years in the Army and received several commendations, such as the American Defense Service Medal, American Campaign Medal, European Campaign Medal, Army Occupational Medal and the National Defense Service Medal. Tillson was born in Fort Huachuca, Ariz., and graduated from West Point in 1938. He made the U.S. Modern Pentathlon Team for the 1940 Olympics, but with the outbreak of World War II, the games were canceled, and he was reassigned to 1st Cavalry Division. His grandfather and his father both retired as colonels from the Army.
