A native of Gainesville, Mrs. Griggs, was the daughter of the late William Anderson and Lera Beard Mathis and was preceded in death b her husband, J.H. Griggs, her son Joe Griggs and brother W.A. Mathis. She was a graduate of Piedmont College and received her master's degree from the University of Georgia in psychology and counseling. Mrs. Griggs was a retired high school teacher and guidance counselor. She was a member of the Three Arts Club and a member of the Cornelia United Methodist Church, where she served as librarian for many years. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m., Tuesday, at the Cornelia United Methodist Church with Wayne Smith, pastor, officiating. Burial will follows in the Level Grove Cemetery. Sydney Moore Hamilton, 82, of Birmingham, Ala., died Saturday, April 7, 2001, at her residence. She was born in Mobile, Ala. on the original Armistice Day (Nov. 11, 1918) to the late Osborn Rogers Moore and Georgia Cannady Moore. After graduating from high school in Jackson, Ala. she moved to York, Ala. where her parents ran a hotel. It was there she met and married Charles Hunter Hamilton, who preceded her in death in 1995, after 56 years of marriage. She moved to Birmingham in 1997 and became a member of Shades Mountain Independent Church where she enjoyed fellowship with many Christian friends. She attended Prime Timers and Widows Might. She was blessed by the Bible teaching of Pastor Walls and she was a long time student of Dr. John MacArthur. She enjoyed water aerobics at Lakeshore Foundation, reading and various kinds of hand work. She is survived by two daughters: Camilla Bracewell and husband Bill of Athens, Ga.; and Sharon Hamilton of Birmingham, Ala.; one granddaughter, Allison Bracewell McCullick and husband, Bryan, of Conyers, Ga.; and one sister, Virginia Wilkinson of Jackson, Ala. Visitation will be from 1-2 p.m. on Tuesday, at Bumpers Funeral Home in York with the funeral service to follow at 2 p.m. Burial will be in York Cemetery.
