A native of Ty Ty, Mrs. Hill was a daughter of the late Edwin Jasper and Della Hinson Williams, and was the widow of Hoke S. Hill Sr. She earned a master's degree from the University of Georgia and was a teacher at Georgia State College for Women, Canon Elementary School and Hart County High School. She was a past president and member of the Hart County Retired Teacher's Association, was a Cub Scout Den Mother, a 4-H Club Adult Leader and was active in PTO's for several area schools. She attended Canon Baptist Church where she served on the building committee, was teacher of the Young Married Adult Sunday School Class and was active with the Women's Missionary Union. Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Canon Baptist Church with the Revs. Paul Creason and Eldon Massey officiating. Survivors include a son, Hoke S. Hill Jr., a daughter-in-law and three grandchildren, all of Clemson, S.C. The family will receive friends from 7-9 p.m. today at Pruitt Funeral Home, Royston. OBITUARIES Story last updated at 9:13 p.m. on Sunday, July 8, 2001 John Hungerford Cocoa Beach, Fla. John Bennett Hungerford, 82, of 127 LaRiviere Road, died Wednesday, July 4, 2001. A native of Athens, Mr. Hungerford was a son of the late DeForest Secrest Hungerford and the late Ruth Bennett. He was a retired soil conservationist with the U.S. Department of Agriculture. A private service will be held at a later date. Survivors include his wife, Sarah H. Hungerford; a son, John B. Hungerford Jr., Redondo Beach, Calif.; two sisters, Ruth Varner, Columbus, Ga., and Dorothy Willis, Wichita Falls, Texas; and a brother, DeForest Hungerford, Sulphur Springs, Texas. East Coast Cremation, Rockledge, Fla., has charge of arrangements. A native of Oglethorpe County, Mr. Edwards was a son of the late Andrew Edwards and the late Lucille Edwards Waller. He was a construction worker and was a member of New Bethlehem Baptist Church. Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at New Bethlehem Baptist Church, Carlton, with the Rev. S.A. Bishop officiating. The body will be placed in the church at 1 p.m. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Survivors include his wife, Annie Edwards; four sons, Jimmy Edwards, Freddy Edwards, Dwight Heard and Tommy Heard, all of Lexington; two sisters, Lula Moore, Lexington, and Minnie Webb, Gainesville; six brothers, Ferge Edwards and Herman Edwards, both of Lexington, Arthur Edwards and Thomas Edwards, both of Athens, Willie Edwards, Decatur, and The Rev. Willie Edwards, Chicago, Ill.; a stepsister, Ruby Mitchell, Lexington; three stepbrothers, Willie Waller and John D. A native of Bosworth, Mo., Mr. Grout was the widower of Margaret Grout. He was a graduate of the University of Missouri with a law degree and was employed in law enforcement with the FBI, was chief probation officer in Kansas City, Mo., and was a judge with the U.S. Parole Board in Washington, D.C. He retired in Athens. Services will be at 11 a.m. today at Saint James United Methodist Church with the Rev. Kent Reynolds officiating. Burial will be in Overland Park, Kan. Survivors include a daughter, Geneva Wharton, Overland Park, Kan., and a daughter and son-in-law, Geraldine and Bill Swope, Hilton Head, S.C.; three grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
