He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Elizabeth Tuck Cavett. Cotton was born in Chickasha, Okla. He graduated from the University of Oklahoma and obtained his law degree from George Washington University. He served in World War II and retired as a colonel in the U. S. Air Force JAG Corps. He and ''Libber'' retired to Winder, where he was a member of the First United Methodist Church and the Winder Kiwanis Club. A memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday at the First United Methodist Church in Winder, Ga. Cotton is survived by his son, Dan Cavett; daughter-in-law, Anne Fulton Cavett; granddaughters, Mary Danielle and Anne Elizabeth Cavett; grandsons, Mark Thompson and Michael Chandler Cavett, all of Tucson, Ariz., Ashley Epting, of New York City, and Daniel Epting, of Athens. She was a member of the American Dietician Association; SONTA, a women's service organization; and very active in Meals-On-Wheels in Athens and Mobile. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church. Mrs. Matilda Caswell Wheeler, a retired Anne Arundel County instrumental music teacher, died Sunday, May 6, 2001 in Marriottsville, Md. Mrs. Wheeler moved back to Maryland six years ago after retiring to Athens, Ga. in 1974 with her husband, John Ward Wheeler, a retired Anne Arundel County Industrial Arts Teacher. Mrs. Wheeler was born in Taylor, Pa. on October 5, 1912 where she grew up and eventually returned to teach music after receiving her BA in Music Education at Mansfield University in Mansfield, Pa. Upon moving to Maryland in 1954 she began teaching instrumental music at George Fox Junior High School in Pasadena, Md. while she also received a Masters Degree in Education from the University of Maryland. She remained at George Fox Junior High School for 20 years until her retirement in 1974. She was the organist for many years at the Glen Burnie Methodist Church where she and her family were members of the congregation. She was a member of Sigma Alpha Iota, an international, professional women's music fraternity and also a member of Delta Kappa Gamma, a fraternal order of teachers. After retirement to Athens, Ga. in 1974, where she was a member of First Methodist Church of Athens, she continued taking courses at the University of Georgia. She learned to play the dulcimer and her husband, a talented wood craftsman, made several of them for her. After his death in 1977, Mrs. Wheeler became involved in porcelain artistry and, with her talent, was in a very few years asked to display some of her work at the International Porcelain Artists Convention in New Orleans in 1984. one of her pieces went on to be displayed a the Porcelain Artists Museum in Oklahoma. She was an inspiring woman who spent her life giving the joy of music to her students and her joy of beauty to all who met her. Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Saturday at Lord and Stephens Funeral Home, East. Interment will be in Evergreen Memorial Park. She is survived by her daughter, Cynthia Meinken; son-in-law, Roger-Deitz Meinken; and grandson, Bryan Hans Meinken.
