Whitehead High Shoals Travis L. Whitehead, 93, died Monday, April 9, 2001. A native of Oconee County, Mr. Whitehead was a son of the late Joe Wesley Whitehead and Ossie Gordon Whitehead. He was a graduate of Monroe A & M School and resided in Atlanta most of his life where he was manager of Thompson's Restaurant. He was later associated with Interstate Life Insurance Co. and retired as staff manager for Coastal States Life Insurance Co. After retirement he was a special agent with Security Life Insurance of Georgia. He was a member of Masonic Lodge #59, the Yaarab Shrine Temple and the OES. He was a member of Calvary Temple Church, Atlanta. Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Arthur Bowick's Oconee Chapel, Watkinsville, with the Revs. John Sorrow and Wayman Whitehead officiating. Burial will be in Ray's United Methodist Church cemetery. Survivors include two sisters, Opal W. Dickens, High Shoals, and Eunice W. Edwards, Gainesville; a brother, Sam Watters, St. Mountain; nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
