Noell Watkinsville Shirley C. Noell, 49, died Monday, May 7, 2001. A native of Wrightsville, Mrs. Noell was a daughter of Lola F. Scoggins, Watkinsville, and the late Nute Patterson Scoggins. She was connected with Dixie Oil Company for over 15 years and was of the Baptist faith. Services will be at 2 p.m. today at Bridges Funeral Home with Rev. Elmer F. Butler officiating. Burial will be in Clark Cemetery, Lexington. Survivors, in addition to her mother, include her husband, James A. Noell, Sr.; a son, James A. Noell, Winterville; a sister, Burt Denton, Commerce; five grandchildren; nieces and nephews. A native of Wilkes, Mr. Whitener was a son of the late Joe Whitener and Maizell Slaton Whitener. He was retired from the Savannah River Plant. He was a World War II and Korean conflict Veteran of the United States Army. He was a mason and a member of Hiram Lodge #51. Services will be at 3 p.m. today at Independence United Methodist Church cemetery, Tignall. Survivors include his wife, Hilda Landau Whitener; a step-daughter, Jeanie Johnson, Washington; three step-sons, Richard Broome, Lyndon Broome, and Charles Broome, all of Washington; two sisters, Lucy Chadwick, Columbia, S.C., and Bonnie Cumbest, Augusta; and three step-grandchildren. She was retired from Hoschton Garment Manufacturing Company. Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Carter Funeral Home with Rev. Howard C. Banks officiating. Burial will be at Nazareth United Methodist Church cemetery. A native of Rabun County, Mrs. Weatherford was a daughter of the late Ellis A. Marcus and Flora Mae Harvey Marcus, and was a widow of Johnnie Chapman Weatherford. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Joyce Wilson. She was a retired seamstress for Lena-Hy Garment Company. She was a past member of WMU. She was a member of West End Baptist Church and the Matrons Sunday School class. She lived in Greensboro for the last 70 years. Services will be at 11 a.m. today at West End Baptist Church with Rev. Robert Robinson officiating. Burial will be in Greenview Cemetery. Survivors include a daughter, Janet Webb, Greensboro; a son, Charlie Weatherford, Rome; six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
