A native of Stephens County, Mr. Whiten was a son of the late Elmer and Maggie Whiten. He graduated from Eastanollee High School, received a BA from Mercer University, Macon, his masters of religious education and a graduate specialist in social work from Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, Louisville, Ky. He received a Ph.D. in counseling psychology from Carolina University of Theology, South Carolina. He served as pastor of several churches in Georgia for 18 years before moving to Oregon. He served as director of Christian Social Ministries at N.W. Baptist Convention until his retirement in 1992. He was president of Oregon Council on Alcohol Problems for 10 years and had worked with International Lifeliners Association, ministering to prison inmates and their families. He was the founder and executive director of Camp Hope N.W., a camp for children of prison inmates. He also served on the board of S.A.F.E. Ministries. Services will be at 1 p.m. today at Willamette National Cemetery. A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the N.W. Baptist Convention, Vancouver, Wash. She was the daughter of the late Sidney Lee Clements and the late Alice Wynn Harris, both of Charlottesville, Albemarle County, Virginia. Mrs. Morrow was educated in the Albemarle County Public Schools and was a graduate of McIntire High School in Charlottesville, Virginia. She attended and was a graduate of the Maryland General Hospital School of Nursing in Baltimore, Maryland. She practiced as a registered nurse for a number of years and was employed variously at the Maryland General Hospital, the University of Virginia Hospitals, Charlottesville, Virginia; Smith Hospital and Nursing Home, Hahira, Georgia; Saint Joseph's Hospital, Augusta, Georgia; and the Georgia Department of Public Health. Mrs. Morrow was preceded in death by her husband, John Gordon Morrow, Jr., M.D., of Hahira, Georgia. Mrs. Morrow is survived by her son, John Gordon Morrow III, M.D. of Atlanta, Georgia; her daughter, Laura Alice Morrow of Charlottesville, Virginia; grandchildren, Sarah, Theresa and Catherine Morrow of Atlanta, Melissa and Jon Weaver of Portland, Oregon; one sister, Inez Clements Rodgers of Charlottesville, Virginia; and friend, Jesse Calvin Watts of Athens, Georgia; many nieces, nephews and cousins also survive. A native of Statesboro, Mr. Poole was a son of Robert Poole, Athens, and Mr. and Mrs. Ronald Riggs, Lawrenceville. He attended Statesboro High School. He moved to Nashville in 1996 to pursue his love of music. He was associated with Great Impressions Printing Company. Services will be at 4 p.m. today at Belmont Church, Nashville, Tenn., with the Rev. Charles Newman officiating. Graveside services and internment will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, April 14, 2001 at Oconee Hill Cemetery with the Rev. Gene Britton officiating. Survivors, in addition to his parents, include two children, Jordan Poole and Ella Poole, and their mother, Doris Graves of Nashville, Tenn.; his devoted companion, Brenda Bagull of Nashville, Tenn.; a brother and sister-in-law, Eric and Tavala Poole of Lawrenceville; three stepbrothers, Christopher Howard, Courtland Howard and Carter Howard, all of Athens; grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Robert R. Poole, Sr. of Louisville, Ga. and Earl and Patsy Sweikhart of Punta Gorda, Fla.; a number of aunts, uncles and friends from Nashville and Statesboro. The family will receive friends at Belmont Church today, from 2:00 until 4:00 p.m. Lord and Stephens Funeral Home, East, is in charge of arrangements.
