A native of Oglethorpe County, Mr. Huff was a son of the late George Thomas and Sara Elberta Thomas Huff, and was preceded in death by a daughter, Shirley Huff. He was a retired granite polisher and a World War II army veteran. He was a member of Woodmen of the World and attended Falling Creek Baptist Church. Frank Phillips, age 86, of 310 King Ave., died January 13, 2001. A native of Bibb County, Mr. Phillips had lived in Athens since 1938. He was the son of the late Benjamin Frank and Aurie Thompson Phillips, and was the former owner of Phillips Refrigerator Service. He served with the US Army in the Philippines and Japan during World War II and was a member of the Cross Keys Baptist Church in Macon. Survivors include his wife Amy Lay Phillips, Athens; sisters, Mrs. Sibyl P. Jones, Macon, Mrs. Dorothy P. Bonney Chico, California Warren Chester Bonney, UGA Professor Emeritus, died on December 23, 2000 of esophageal cancer. Born on December 7, 1920 in Garfield, WA, son of the late Harry and Maggie Blakeman Bonney, he spent his formative years in Salem, OR. Prior to moving to California last August, Dr. Bonney was a faculty member in the Department of Counseling and Human Development Services in the College of Education from 1965 to 1987. He was department chair from 1967 to 1973. Following his retirement he continued to teach doctoral students on a part-time basis and served as a consultant and counselor at the Samaritan Counseling Center in Athens. Dr. Bonney received a BA from Ohio State University, an MA from North Texas State University and, in 1958, a Ph.D. in Educational and Counseling Psychology from the University of Texas. He served in the US Army Medical Services Corps during WWII. Prior to his UGA tenure he was on the faculties of Texas A&M University and the University of Illinois. He was active in the American Counseling Association and the American Psychological Association. He is survived by his daughter, Marilyn Bonney, Chico, CA; two grandchildren, Dalena Johnson, San Diego, CA, and Danny Johnson, Lake Tahoe, CA; his brother, Merl Bonney, Boulder, CO; and two stepdaughters, Marinesa Letizia and Jacqueline Schrader. Johnson Athens Valerie Woodard Johnson died on January 11, 2001. Born January 6, in Macon, Georgia, Mrs. Johnson was a daughter of Dock Woodard and Annie Lee Cole Woodard. A longtime resident of Athens, Mrs. Johnson attended Wesleyan Conservatory in Macon. During her years in Athens, she became a great fan of Georgia football, basketball, and tennis. She enjoyed playing tennis and was a volunteer for the NCAA Tennis finals when they were held in Athens. She was also an avid bridge player and active participant in the Roadrunners. She co-founded the Bridal Gallery in 1977 with friends Amanda Thompson and Mary Beth McDonald. She was an active member of the First Baptist Church where she taught Sunday school for many years. Although the true focus of her life was her family, she found time to volunteer within the church and community. Her kind smile and gentle manner was a joy to those around her and she will be missed by all. She is survived by her husband of 59 years, Cecil L. Johnson, Jr., and her children Valerie and Gary Franklin of Athens, Regina and Bill Taylor of Columbia, SC and Cecil ''Weedy'' and Laurie Johnson of Atlanta; seven grandchildren, Marshall Franklin of Atlanta, Allen Franklin of Athens, Alex, Lacey and Caroline Taylor of Columbia, SC, and Ryan and Ben Johnson of Atlanta; sisters, Elaine Bloodworth of Haddock, GA and Gloria Neal of Macon, GA; brother-in-law, Rex Neal of Macon, GA and sister-in-law, Elaine Goolsby of Los Angeles, CA; and several nieces and nephews.
