James Demorest Martha J. James, 73, died Wednesday, Feb. 14, 2001. A native of Rabun County, Mrs. James was a daughter of the late Hilyer and Jenny Coalley and was the widow of Jasper David James. She was preceded in death by a son, Henry Lee Marcus. She was retired from Orbit Manufacturing after 20 years. Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at McGahee-Griffin and Stewart Funeral Home, Cornelia, with the Revs. Billy Burrell and William Cox officiating. Burial will be in Harmony Baptist Church cemetery. Survivors include three daughters, Evelyn Higgins, Clarkesville, Bonnie Canup, Demorest, and Melinda Rich, Cornelia; a stepdaughter, Margaret Jenkins, Mount Airy; three sons, Jimmy Marcus, Demorest, David Marcus, Cleveland, and Ronnie Marcus, Clarkesville; 11 grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. Wood, 85, of Charles Creek Road died Thursday, Feb. 15, 2001. A native of Franklin County, Mr. Wood was a son of the late Lee and Alta Brown Wood. He was a U.S. Army veteran, was retired from WABCO and was a member of Clarkes Creek Baptist Church. Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Whitlock Mortuary, Toccoa, with the Revs. Allen Cole and Truitt Brawner officiating. Burial will be in Clarkes Creek Baptist Church cemetery. Survivors include his wife, Ila Brown Wood; a daughter, Gail Auer, Flowery Branch; a son, Douglas Wood, Martin; a sister, Blanche Thompson, Martin; a grandson; nieces and nephews. A native of Meriwether County, Mr. Fuller was a son of the late William and Mary Lou Chapman Fuller. He was a former owner of The Catfish Inn, Atlanta, and was of the Baptist faith. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II who served in Germany. Services will be at 3 p.m. Saturday at Strickland Funeral Home with the Rev. Ted Kelley and Dr. Dan Vincent officiating. OBITUARIES Story last updated at 7:55 p.m. on Thursday, February 15, 2001 Stanley Jordan Arnoldsville Stanley Gene Jordan, 64, former Chief Investigator for the District Attorney's Office, died of injuries from a motor vehicle accident, early the morning of February 15, 2001. A native of Clarke County, he was a son of the late Dillard and Ruby Oldham Jordan. Mr. Jordan was with the District Attorney's Office from May, 1978, until his retirement December 31, 2000. Prior to joining the District Attorney's Office, Stanley worked as Chief of Detectives for the Clarke County Police Department from May, 1974 until May, 1978. He was one of the original officers who formed the Clarke County Police Department, having left his position as supervising investigator with the University of Georgia Police Department. He was an alumnus of the University of Georgia and served with the United States Army in Germany. Funeral services will be Saturday, February 17, 2001 at 2:00 PM at Lord and Stephens Chapel, East with Rev. Tim Hammond officiating. Interment will be in Evergreen Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be Ronald Chandler, Bill Dean, Gerald Guntharp, Jimmy Collinsworth, Harry Thomas and Jimmy Carroll. Honorary pallbearers will be former co-workers and associates from the District Attorney's office during Stanley's last 10 years of employment. A native of Madison County, Mr. Fouche was a son of the late Albert Franklin Fouche and Vera Stone Fouche. He was preceded in death by a sister, Helen Beatenbough. He was retired as a plumber contractor with Fouche Plumbing Inc. and was a farmer. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean Conflict and was a member of Providence Baptist Church. Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Providence Baptist Church with the Revs. Dayton Logan and Albert Vaughn officiating. The body will be placed in the church at 1:30 p.m. Burial will be in the church cemetery. OBITUARIES Story last updated at 7:55 p.m. on Thursday, February 15, 2001 Malcolm McCoy Sr. Snellville Malcolm McCoy, Sr., UGA Professor and Marathon Runner Malcolm McCoy started his UGA professorship and marathon running after arriving in Athens, GA in 1963. He was a running fixture in Athens for the next 25 years, enjoying life in a university town. Dr. McCoy, 74, son of the late Dr. John McCoy and Vera T. Honaker died of cancer on February 15, 2001, at Embracing Care Hospice in Snellville, Ga. He was born in New York City and attended The University of Virginia where he received his BA and MA degrees. He then attended Case Western Reserve University where he received his Ph.D. in Audiology. He served in WW2 aboard a Naval LSM in the Asian Pacific theatre of war. Dr. McCoy practiced Audiology at the University of Virginia, North Carolina Baptist Hospital and the University of Georgia. He retired from the University and entered private practice in Athens and Gainesville, Ga. Dr. McCoy helped establish the Audiology program at the University of Virginia and a similar program at the University of Georgia. He was a life-time member of the American Speech, Language and Hearing Association. Dr. McCoy was an avid runner, having run in 30 marathons including 6 Boston Marathons. He ran his last marathon (Boston) when he was 69. He celebrated his 55th birthday by running from Athens to Atlanta. He was a part-time volunteer at the UVA Cancer Center and ran to support the Dana Farber Cancer Institute. A.S. Turner Funeral Home in Decatur, GA is handling arrangements. Visitation hours are Friday, February 16th from 7-9 PM. A private family memorial service will be held on Saturday, February 17th at 11:00 AM. Malcolm McCoy is survived by his children, Malcolm McCoy, Jr. of Lilburn, GA, Molly Anderson of Tucker, GA, Mary McCoy of San Francisco, CA, Mark McCoy of Atlanta, GA and by 6 grandchildren.
