A lifelong resident of Stephens County, Mrs. Watson was a daughter of the late Julius Odell and Laura Mize Pruitt and was the widow of Johnie McCurley. She was retired from Coats and Clark and was a member of Congregational Holiness Church. She was a PBX member and past president and was a hospital auxiliary worker. Services will be at 2 p.m. today at Acree-Davis Funeral Home with the Revs. Don Pruitt and O.L. Stokes officiating. Burial will be in Stephens Memorial Gardens. Survivors include her husband, Edward Watson; two stepdaughters, Laura Humphrey, Austin, Texas, and Daphne Greer, Midland, Texas; a son, Derrick McCurley, Toccoa; a sister, Shirley Garmon, Toccoa; two brothers, the Rev. A native of Madison County, Mr. Bagwell was a son of the late Willie Ernest and Hattie Ruth Alford Bagwell. He was employed by the University of Georgia Public Safety Division and was retired from the Athens-Clarke County Police Department as lieutenant commander of services division and had worked in the homicide division. He was a U.S. Air Force veteran and was a graduate of the University of Georgia and of the Georgia Bible Institute, where he received a seminary degree. He served Hannah's Creek and Bethel M. Baptist churches, both in Madison County, Rice Creek Baptist Church, Franklin County, and Faith Baptist Church, Elbert County. Services will be at 3 p.m. Sunday at Friendship Baptist Church with the Revs. Dayton Logan, Ray Jenkins, Barry Black and Don Mulkey officiating. OBITUARIES Story last updated at 9:21 p.m. on Friday, March 16, 2001 Charles Joseph Eckenrode Athens Charles Joseph Eckenrode, 87, of Athens, died Sunday, March 4, 2001. Born near Emmitsburg, MD, he was the son of the late Charles and Mary Eckenrode. After graduating from Mount St. Mary's College, he later received a Master's degree from the University of Maryland. A lifelong educator, his teaching career began at Emmitsburg Public High School in 1935, followed by a move to Principal at the National Training School for Boys in Washington, D.C. Next came a three year stint with the U.S. Army Medical Corps during WW II. Upon returning to civilian life, he dovetailed his commitment to education into two distinguished careers: first as a supervisor of education in various institutions with the Federal Bureau of Prisons, Department of Justice, followed by a position at UGA in the Sociology Department. A memorial service will be held 11:00 AM Saturday, March 17, 2001, at the UGA Catholic Center. Father Jack McDowell will officiate. Survivors include his wife, Jessie Shipley Eckenrode of Athens; a son, Charles J. Eckenrode of Keeline, WY; a daughter, Virginia K.
