Rosa Lee Aycock, 100, formerly of Athens, died Sunday, May 13, 2001. A native of Oglethorpe County, Mrs. Aycock was a daughter of the late William S. and Rena Johnson, and was a widow of Homer Aycock Sr. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Eva Lee Parks, and a son, Percy Aycock. She was a member of Ebenezer Baptist Church, West. Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Ebenezer Baptist Church, West with the Rev. Charles Stokes officiating. A native of Greenville County, S.C., was a son of the late John Henry and Nancy Katherine Thompson Gilstrap. He was a Baptist Minister who served in churches in North Carolina, South Carolina and Georgia. He was a long-time pastor of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church in Lavonia. He was a volunteer chaplain for Rutherford Hospital. He was a member of Montford Cove Baptist Church, Union Mills, N.C. Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Boiling Springs First Baptist Church, Boiling Springs, N.C., with the Revs. Bobby Gettys, Joe Seay, Marvin Greene and Earl Waters officiating. OBITUARIES Story last updated at 9:48 p.m. on Wednesday, May 16, 2001 George Dew Bishop George Herbert Dew, 61, died suddenly of natural causes at his home near Bishop, Ga., Monday morning, May 14, 2001. He was employed at The Georgia Club, near Statham. Mr. Dew was a resident of the Athens area for the last 34 years and was owner/operator of three service stations during that time: a Phillips 66 station at Broad St. and Alps Rd., and Gulf Stations at Boulevard and Chase St., and Hawthorne and Oglethorpe. He came to Athens from his native Dade City, Fla. Mr. Dew served in the United States Army, Kodiak Command, Ft. Wainwright, Alaska, in 1963-65, where he met his first wife, Janice Reed, mother of his three children. George is survived by his loving family: wife Roberta (Robbie) Dew; son Wallace Lynn Dew of Danielsville, Ga.; daughters, Laurie Ann Stover, Winder, and Leslie Elizabeth Reviere with grandsons Jacob, Cameron, and Harrison, of Statham, Ga., and Jessica Ann Daigle, Bishop, Ga. Surviving siblings are David W. Dew, Ferguson, MO, James E. Goleta, Calif., Wilbur L., Dade City, Fla., John A., Tampa, Fla., Robert E., Hull, and Virginia Dew Blake, Dade City, Fla. and the late Joy Dew Russell, Arcadia, Fla.
