He was preceded in death by a son, Michael D. Queen. He was a veteran of World War II who served in Italy, North Africa and Europe. He was connected with the Clarke County Board of Education until 1984 and was a member of Salem Baptist Church, Oglethorpe County. A native of Pelham, Mrs. Perkins was a daughter of the late Joseph James and Mary Kemp Blanton and was the widow of Roy Perkins. She was a retired school teacher and was a member of Cairo First United Methodist Church. She attended GWCS, was a graduate of the University of Georgia and of Florida State University. She was a member of Moonlight Garden Club, Delta Kappa Gamma, the Honorary Teachers Society and the Retired Teachers Association. She taught school in Grady County Public Schools, taught third-grade at Southside Elementary School, was principal at Midway Public School and was curriculum director for Grady County Public Schools. She received the ''Distinguished Service Award for Supervision of Instruction'' for the state of Georgia. Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in Greenwood Cemetery, Cairo, with the Rev. Jim Martin during both his gubernatorial and congressional races. She was a member of St. David's Episcopal Church where she was a member of the Vestry and served as secretary of the Bishop Thomas Chapter. She also was a former member of the Board of St. David's School and St. David's Thrift Shop. Surviving are her husband James Wellington Galletly of Cheraw, one daughter Anne Galletly McKinney of Raleigh, NC, her mother India Slayton Wilkerson of Columbia, SC, one brother Bud Wilkerson of Charlotte, NC, one grandson William Robert McKinney of Raleigh, NC.
